Dumb New York And La Laws

New York

A fine of $25 can be levied for flirting. This old law specifically prohibits men from turning around on any city street and looking "at a woman in that way." A second conviction for a crime of this magnitude calls for the violating male to be forced to wear a "pair of horse-blinders" wherever and whenever he goes outside for a stroll.

( How I wish that this law was in full effect :rolleyes: )

=================================

It is against the law to throw a ball at someone's head for fun.

The penalty for jumping off a building is death.

My personal favorite...... :lol:

New Yorkers cannot dissolve a marriage for irreconcilable differences, unless they both agree to it. That rarely happens, since one party regularly says "no" to the other, or there wouldn't be a reason to dissolve the marriage. If one of the spouses says "no" to the divorce, the other party has to prove that the spouse saying "no" was at fault. Fault could be one of four terrible things. If the spouse has abandoned the other spouse, that is, left the house for a year or if there hasn't been sexual relations for a year (how do you prove that?). Another one of the four terrible things, an oft cited fault, is to assert that the spouse has treated the other spouse with physical or mental cruelty. This is usually the case in most deteriorating marriages, but for the court's purposes, yelling and screaming is not usually enough; pictures of bruises taken in the emergency room might suffice. Divorce will be easy if the spouse has been imprisoned for two or three years. Much more difficult is the last fault, adultery. This keeps a lot of private detectives in business, since lipstick on the collar is not proof. It also means that lawyers get paid to "prove" fault, or on the other side, to show how lame the opposing side's "fault" claim is.

While riding in an elevator, one must talk to no one, and fold his hands while looking toward the door.

Los Angeles

Toads may not be licked.

Why does this law exist?

====================

Law: Toads may not be licked.

Country: United States

State/Province: California

City: Los Angeles

Explanation: The toad that is referenced in this law secretes a poison that some people were licking to produce an effect like heroin to become "high".

:blink:

In Australia I believe there is a some sort of drink that is made from these toad secreations and is a quite powerful concoction.

Is that drink illegal in Australia. To tell you the truth I've spent some time trying to find out if the laws are true, but to no avail.

But here are a few more from other states....

===============================

* An excerpt from Kentucky state legislation. "No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club". The following important amendment however is to be considered here: "The provisions of this statute shall not apply to females weighing less than 90 pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds, nor shall it apply to female horses."

* In Merryville, Missouri, women are prohibited from wearing corsets because "The privilege of admiring the curvaceous, unencumbered body of a young woman should not be denied to the normal, red-blooded American male."

* In Cleveland, women are forbidden from wearing patent leather shoes, lest men see reflections of their underwear.

Texas

The entire Encyclopedia Britannica is banned in Texas because it contains a formula for making beer at home.

A recently passed anticrime law requires criminals to give their victims 24 hours notice, either orally or in writing, and to explain the nature of the crime to be committed.

In El Paso, churches, hotels, halls of assembly, stores, markets, banking rooms, railroad depots, and saloons are required to provide spittoons "of a kind and number to efficiently contain expectorations into them."

It is illegal to milk another person's cow.

In Mesquite, it is illegal for children to have unusual haircuts.

Eve, there are tons of stupid laws, some still in force in USA. There were times in Texas and Louisiana, during the "era" of the so-called Blue Laws. Those were the times when you cannot buy beer on Sundays. In order to do so, you need to by special coupons on Saturday and then you may buy alcohol on Sunday. Then there were laws against erotic items, laws against hawking, also walking close to the river bank with agricultural instruments in your hands. Some are still preserved by the way. :lol:

Ah, Columbus, Columbus.... f*** your curiosity! :)

Gamavor, can you do my Business Law homework? I'm a knucklehead when it comes to law, before I dropped the class I argued with my professor that laws lack logic, so I don't understand how he wanted me to logically analyze.

Any more dumb laws you know of?
