No one here is complaining about Armenian tv, we're complaining about the foreign element within armenian tv. there is nothing armenian about russian, persian, arab, ... programmings aired on Armenian tv, nor does it contribute to hayapahpanman. thats the issue here, not whether or not we like certain show, certain reporters because they have an accent, etc... please guys stick to the topic Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You have Armenians from all over the globe, so, foriegn influence is unavoidable. However, what you can control is what kind of foreign culture influences the Armenian channel. For instance, seeing Armenians "rap" and act all "thugged out" is detrimental to our youth’s future. We need to make sure our youth does not abandon their own culture for one that has no relavence to them. In Glendale Armenians think they are not "white" and drive around emulating "black" culture". Black cultures is not “bad”, but in no way can an Armenian relate to the suffering of a black man likewise a black man can not relate to the suffering of Armenians. Armenians were never slaves nor were they ever oppressed by the white man. Black culture has really penetrated the minds of the youth so much so that Armenian kids nowadays refer to woman as "bitches" and "hoes". In general they refer to all woman and I am not trying to pick on Armenians, however, they fail to realize that the labels they do use are most likely going to refer to a Armenian girl they are potential talking to, hanging out with, or going out with. Lastly, I would like to make sure everyone realizes that Armenians in Los Angeles are already trading their own culture for pop-culture, so, you may not understand where I am coming from. Most Armenians on the East Coast have a different experience living in an Armenian community as opposed to us in LA. Here we see Armenians paying five hundred car payments, but yet they work at Jones. Here you have Armenians that think accumulating debt is the equivalent of equity. This is partially because Armenians are buying into the materialistic "ghetto" fabulous lifestyle that rappers promote. Armenians are slowly adopting the "I am a victim" mentality. They were never a minority, but yet have only become one in their minds. Most live a middle-class life and have grown up in a solid family. The Armenian community needs to stop promoting these "wannabe" black Armenians by not allowing them air time. I is very disgusting and tragic that Armenians are emulating "black culture" instead of sticking to their own. I can not even classify "hip-hop" as a culture, so, even to say that it is a culture is just wrong, but for the sake of argument let us assume it is a culture. Anyways, I do not want to drift off topic, but in short we need to pick and choose what foreign influence to air on our channels. We need to make sure we are moving up as a community and a Armenian youth driving a "tricked out" BMW M3 is not my idea of moving up. gurgen Posted August 20, 2004 Report Share Posted August 20, 2004 I so so so disagree!! Maybe because I grew up in Holland, land of subtitles, next to Germany, land of dubbing. Everything in Holland is subtitled, including the news etc. You get to hear real voices with real people. No mouths moving in the wrong direction and missing out what is really said. This is especially annoying when you understand the foreign language!! Like that Turkish doc I was watching. I cringe every time the voice-over comes on and drowns the English or Armenian. Seriously, I really wouldn't mind the Dutch system applied to Armenia TV. I'd even be proud. The Dutch system should be applied in every country in the world as far as I'm concerned. It's really annoying when you watch a musical on German TV eg and you hear some lame German singing the songs. Or try watching a sitcom in German, or French for that matter. It might be funny to watch once or twice as a joke and laugh, but it's really annoying when you want to watch something seriously. They actually show really good foreign movies/shows sometimes on WDR etc. or TV5/France 2 and even Rai Uno! But all in German, French or Italian! And dubbing is NEVER done well. It can't be! I'd say give those people a real job instead of torturing the rest of us. Hey welcome back Gurgen! Long time no see.. I guess we are all a little inpatient to see greatness from Armenia and Armenian Diaspora. Imitation of other cultures just does not satisfy us(in any matter, including TV programs). I and I think most Armenians want cultural ORIGINALITY. But coming back to the topic. ALL I WANT IS FOR WHAT I PAY FOR.....TO BE ABLE TO HEAR ARMENIAN LANGUAGE SPOKEN ON ARMENIAN TV. Espessialy the programs for youth were very appealing. They need to improve the quality of the transmition and the advertisments (some of which were pretty cool).
