Tuesday July 20 - 06:00 PM, Place of Trocadéro - Paris 16th Turkey's Prime Minister Mr. Erdogan will be in Paris from 19-21 of July. Let us say NO to "this" negationnist Turkey ! Together on July 20, 2004, let us make in kind, that France recalls to Mr. Erdogan the 1 500 000 died of 1915 and so that together we say NO to Mr. Erdogan's Turkey, which persists in denying the Armenian genocide. A quick search in Le Monde turned up this article, which makes Turkey's acceptance into the EU sound a lot more plausible than I previously imagined: Chirac confirms his support for the acceptance of Turkey in the EU.. Nakharar Posted July 29, 2004 Report Share Posted July 29, 2004 Turkey is going to receive an open-ended application date, meaning that the actual accession won't take place until many years, if ever. Here in Germany they are talking about granting Turkey special status or an associate membership. I myself don't like the EU at all. At its present level it's hardly a viable entity. EU norms and regulations are becoming too constricting. I have nothing against standardization at a minimal level, which won't take away too much of countries' sovereignity. And nor should they. The people that take part in them are typical one-issue protesters, interested in only in trivial issues. The Armenian genocide is of no importance or relevance to Turkey's potentual membership of the EU. What will stop Turkey becoming an EU member is, I hope, the ordinary population of Europe. If they start to realise that the excess adult working population of Turkey is probably about 12 million, and that on Turkish membership countries like Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain will have to accept perhaps 2 million Turks each, together will all the additional housing and services that they will need (not to mention cultural issues like the inevitable Islamic fundamentalism they will bring with them) then they will close the door to Turkey forever. But we will see increasing EU propaganda to deny this truth (we can see it in action already over Cyprus) since the political elite on the EU graveytrain need additional member countries to increase their power and wealth.
