vava
Soundforge is great. But you have to pay for it. (in theory of course ) If you're only going to be editing MP3 files, you might want to download some freeware, or shareware - on the cheap - that will fit the bill. On my Mac I use MP3Trimmer when I have to break up MP3s and I don't need sophisticated editing features. It's super fast, manipulates large files easily and supports batch processing. I'm sure there are PC equivalents. I'll have a look and post some links...
vava
Sasun jan, I haven't tried it - so don't take this as an endorsement, but you could try THIS software. The trial is free and it's only like 20$ if you want to keep it. Although the shareware stuff is nothing compared to Sound Forge 7.0 (see here for the PC World review of Sound Forge) either is the price tag - nothing compared to the 400$ you'll shell out for Sound Forge. If all you're doing is breaking up MP3s, then you don't need something so $$$ Edited May 23, 2004 by vava
DominO123
Sasun, try audacity, I'm surprised Azat didn't suggested it, it's entirly free.
Sasun
Thanks guys for your advices Yes Vava jan, I found SourceFourge and it was too expensive, I wonder why Azat is using it while there are many cheaper alternatives I did search in download.com and found Audacity suggested by Domino which also allows to record from outside sources. It is free and simple enough for my needs. I am converting some of my tapes into MP3 and splitting function is very critical or else I would have to monitor recording song by song. But with splitting I just record the whole tape and in the end split and export pieces as songs. The only thing is exporting is a little slow but other than that all works out fine. Domino, have you used it? If so, have you used its noisce clearing feature? I tried it but it cleared much of the sound not just the noise, maybe I am doing something wrong. DominO123
Sasun, Audacy lacks of some the features compared to expensive programs, like most of the preprogrammed noise reduction functions. You have to place a range for the frequency of the nouse, but since the music as well will have it sounds in that range, you will reduce music quality as well. This work will trials and errors unfortunitally.

vava
Nothing is easy. Sasun I think I said specifically that the cheap stuff was great IF you are doing simple things like breaking apart MP3s, NOT filtering noise!! That's not 'simple things'!!! For that you'll need a professional application like Digidesign's ProTools. But that'll run you 10K. And even then, you'll need the expertise to do it properly.
