Armenian Army

hi everyone

I was in Armenia last summer and i did hear people talk about the estblishment of a panarmenian fund intended for the national army. In sum, there would be a sort of telethon throughout the world which would have the objective of collecting a considerable sum (i don't know how much exactly, i suppose in the 10s of millions) to allocate for the needs of today's army. The amount would be frosen and the interest could be used year after year for higher educational purposes of armenian officers and other immediate needs of the army (clothing, nutrition, medical, construction, etc). I'm not an army freek or preacher of violence, but i find the idea is good, and regardless of the sum collected, the benefit would be mostly moral for the soldiers and would raise awareness and hype in the diaspora for one of the most important institutions (if not the most) of our present day republic.

what do you think?

I will develope my other thoughts later on

;)

How about promoting business ventures, building economy. You can't have a country depended on hand outs besides my solid guess is even if the funds were collected they probably never be used where it intended but end up some parasites house projects etc.

Aaron,

The fund is already established and has website at www.martik.am. People can sign up and contribute online, too.

First to join the fund initiative were the President of Republic of Armenia, government officials and prominent military generals and officers.

It is certainly a very good idea.

I share Armat's pessimism. I doubt the majority of the funds will actually be allocated to the appropriate purposes. :(
