shiner Posted March 7, 2004 Report Share Posted March 7, 2004 I think there's two ways to view one's career (or at least job) 1) Life's hard and full of chores, you do what you have to do, a job is not meant to be liked, making money is the only aspect, anything gets boring after a while etc. 2) Since you are going to do it your whole life you should definitely like it, and joy for your work should be the main priority, find something you like and you won't have to work for a day out of your life, etc. I think to truly be PASSIONATE about something means to do it even if you did not get paid. This happens to very few, and most have artistic jobs (musicians, etc.). So everybody drifts into something, where they accept the advantages and disadvantages. I guess most end up liking what they make the most money in. Where do you guys think striking the balance should be at in terms of liking vs. money etc. ? I think that even if you don't like your daily routine on the job it's possible to get long term satisfaction by knowing you have accomplished a lot over the years career wise. Or is it better to forget about long term satisfaction and concentrate just on daily routine? I realize it depends on the person. Any opinions? I know most people will not truly enjoy their careers but there must be some kind of middle ground or mentally you'll never make it. I mean I enjoy what I'm doing now to a point, and it facilitates the rest of my Life(ie makes me money) but I could be more into my career and my hope/dream/goal is to advance and eventually be where I want to be. You have to see the future as well as understand the present to be able to make sense of the way time moves in this Life. Your career is a big part of that. If you want things too soon, forgetting that most people must suffer a bit before their success you'll be dissappointed. But I take things as they come and realize that in my life I have struggled many times before success, so i just stay positive.
