Because many armenian children, mainly orphans due to the genocide- were adopted and their identities changed and converted to islam--well they tried to do that to my great grandpa, but he escaped- i think its is a well known fact that many armenian orphans were taken by the turks...or so i think... but thanx for the news...very interesting- especially the turk's reactions. Sorry, I may have approached this topic in a bad manner, which might have made it seem like I was trying to place a glorious spin on a tragic incident in our history. I just meant that this guy, whos entire carrear is praised by Turks, stole everything from Armenians including his daughter that is all. I do not know if this is accurate at all, but like I said it is a interesting read. I just hope you did not take offense nor anyone else. Are you implying that you have not researched, this tangent of the Armenian genocide? I am sure everyone reading is shocked at this. --------------------------------------------------------------- In case anyone did not know, in Islamic societies the belief is that everyone is born a muslim. The problem from their point of view is that infidel parents raise their kids to be, in this case Christians, instead of muslims. But they have concepts like jihad to take care of this, these non-muslims resisting the spread of Islam. So with something like the Armenian genocide leaving alot of kids without their unwanted infidel parents it is every pious muslim's duty to help raise them and bring them back to the path of Allah. Sabiha Gokcen was adopted by Ataturk in 1925 when she was 12 years old. She later became Turkey's first woman pilot and died in 2001. On Saturday the daily Hurriyet reported that Gokcen was the daughter of a man who died in the mass slaughter of Armenians by the army in 1915, in the last years of the Ottoman empire. It quoted her niece as saying that she was born in Bursa, western Turkey, and it gave her original name as Hatun Sebilciyan. The Turkish military general staff said that questioning the origins of Ataturk's adopted daughter "is not conducive to social peace or national unity." In a statement to the press, it said that "Ataturk's nationalism was not based on ethnic or religious foundations" and added that "it is a mistake to open a journalistic debate which mocks national values and feelings." The military has shown itself to be highly sensitive about the reputation of Ataturk, who rebuilt the army, abolished the Islamic caliphate and founded the modern, secular state after the collapse of the Ottoman empire at the end of World War I. Turkish military paranoia delivers painfully clearly the massage that minorities were never killed and their existence never occurred meaning their existence is not even worth mentioning.
