Does anyone know the answer to the following question, i swear its not in my book, iv read the chapter over and over again.. its not in there.. DANGIT!!!!

 

If you can help i would be gratefull :)

 

boron has a much lower coefficient of thermal expansion than aluminum, even though both are in the 3B coloumn of the periodic table. Explain, based on binding energy, atomic size and the energy well, why this difference is expected.

 

I cant find a concrete definition of energy well either. what the heck is wrong with this book>>>?? lol

isnt there like a difference between columns and rows-classification?? im not sure--i took chem like 3 yrs ago so ...but wish i could help... :( read into it more im sure its there!!

read the chapters ALLL the way TWICE!! lol.. then i looked at the heading of the quesions.. its general intuitive.. lol..so its not rock solid described in the book.. but this is waaaay of topic.. lol.. i dont like this book, and oly 3rd chapter :( lol,, oh well.. :)
