Punishment

Guys I’ve been reading a story about a woman who has been brought up in a abusive family…. To get away from her abusive father…. she married at age of 16…shortly after being married she had two children… her husband started abusing her…so she got involved with alcohol and drugs… it drew her to a point where she rubbed a store injuring couple of people… then she was placed in a prison for 12 years…she served 11 years and 6 months then she escaped from prison..(her biggest mistake… I think it was very stupid of her) …. she changed her identity… she went to college bought a house got married… she lived 10 years afterward hiding her secret from her new husband and her kids… then finally law caught up with her….. so my question is…. should she be placed in prison for 25 more years??? Do you think she deserves that punishment??? Why or why not? After all she improved her life and served her community and was a good citizen for ten years… has done no harm to anyone…

Keep in mind that book state that she escaped from prison for sake of her children and everything she did was because of her love toward her children..

Btw, this is based on a true story…

Your opinions are appreciated :) :)

Hmm, very very very very very touchy situation..

This story take 2 realms of humanity... The political issues at hand which would say she needs to go to prison, and then the humane issues, which i think would have her live on as she was, and maybe at most finish her 6 months....

So its gonna be ahrd decision, (if this was real life) the state would want to have her serve according to the law, the law that governs municipality... But also the humane society would see her actions more or less of non selfish acts.. and since she has been good and stuf would release her to her life, and the perpetuality of it..

So.. If it were up to me, i would probably have her do some public apology or somehing, just to show the public that her escape is no reason for others to escape and think they can do the same.. and then at the most i would have her serve the last 6 months she needs to server, and let her be with her life, or else it would be ruining the lives of her family...

The one thing that judicial systems everywhere hate more than anything is being made a fool of. That's why they are so reluctant to reverse misscarriages of justice, and deal so heavily with anyone who "messes" with them by doing things like escaping.

In justice it is important not to be emotional. If she is let go freely others may take advantage and abuse the leninency. If she is punished by 25 years sentence it will be too harsh. Perhaps the best is to give her 1-2 years mild prison term.

First of all I want to react to the story. Is it for sure that her husband abused her?

Because I guess her husband must have been one of her kind as well so I think it`s her own mistake that she got in to that situation.

Ofcourse it`s a nice story, escaping from prisson and starting a new life. But she is a baaaaaaaaaad girl, hiding this secret from her new husband. First of all she should be punished for that. The fact that she escaped from prisson is not so important to me but ofcourse she should be punished for changing her identity and so on because if not, it would mean that we give a wrong signal to society. That it rewards to escape from prisson and change identity.

Yes her husband did abuse her and so did her father…. I’ll put some quotes from the book later today but for now I have to go study for my Exam… I’ll post the quotes this evening.

Dood Day!!!

I don't think she should have been put in jail in the first place because it seems to me that her life has been pretty brutal and her experience with her family put her in that state. I mean, she grew up in an abusive family and married a man who abused her. All that led her to get involved with drugs and unfortuantely hurting people. She should have been receiving mental and psychological help instead of being sent to jail.

Since she did go to jail, they should not put her back in jail becasue when she got out, she did nothing but good. Seems as though she just wasted time in jail.

Feel sorry for her. poor woman :(
