How about Cheney the Dick?!!!========Armenian News Network / Groong [Next Article][Previous Article][Main Index] --------------------------------------------------------------------------Date: Tue, 4 Nov 2003 18:25:55 PST -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReutersNov 4 2003 Blast Rocks Turkish Embassy in Netherlands By Jerry Lampen and Zerin Elci THE HAGUE, Netherlands (Reuters) - An explosion rocked the Turkish embassy in The Hague Tuesday and fire broke out after a man left a package on the premises, officials said. Turkey's ambassador to the Netherlands said the blast was caused by a device left by a man who had entered the chancellery asking for information. The blast damaged a door and the man ran away, ambassador Tacan Ildem told Turkish television. "A man coming to the embassy to get some information set off an explosive which caused a fire. The man, wearing a black jacket, managed to escape after a struggle with security guards. The man spoke Dutch and is not a Turkish national," Ildem was quoted as saying on a Dutch television Web site. Embassy officials found a second package in the same area and bomb disposal experts were tackling it, a Turkish foreign ministry official said. Interior Ministry spokesman Frank van Beers said he understood one person had been arrested and another person had jumped out of an embassy window. Embassy officials told Reuters no one had been injured. The embassy was cordoned off by police but not evacuated. Witnesses saw a bomb squad expert clad in a bombproof suit entering the back of the embassy and a bomb-detection robot was being prepared to go in. Kurdish separatists, far-leftists, Islamists, Armenian and Greek militants have all carried out attacks on Turkish targets since the 1970s. An explosion rocked Turkey's embassy in Baghdad on Oct. 14, injuring two Iraqi policemen, days after the Turkish parliament voted to allow troops to go to Iraq to help U.S.-led occupation forces in a decision opposed by many Iraqis. Ambassador Ildem said the embassy had received no threats before and that Tuesday's incident pointed to a general threat facing Turkey's foreign missions. He said he had informed Dutch officials about the incident and asked for the necessary measures to be taken, but that Dutch authorities had declined past Turkish requests to beef up security, saying there was no need to do so. nairi
It's not about Armenians, yet No one knows the motive yet, but they pretty much stopped talking about it on the news today. It wasn't a bomb explosion. A 16-year-old kid got angry at the embassy for some reason, said he'd be back, and returned a few hours later with petrol and matches and set the embassy on fire. They caught him on the run almost right after the deed. But the ambassador, for whatever reason, spoke of a bomb explosion on Turkish TV about 30 minutes after his embassy was set on fire. The kid's ethnicity hasn't been revealed yet and Dutch papers and agencies, as far as I know, refrained from speculating. So nothing was written or said about Armenians. vava
Thanks 'Correspondent' Nairi - could you please keep us informed of any developments? (Especially if there's an Armenian involved - though I hope not....) When will be people learn that bombing, setting blazes and other such acts are detrimental to their causes???
