vava
Thanks, Vava. I use Canon PowerShot Pro 90 IS digital camera with a 58mm lens. Great camera MJ! I have an underused G2, and I love it - though most of the time it sits in the camera bag I find that I'm going back, more and more often to my 35mm... Azat
Great stuff MJ.  My Favorites: 1. Synergy 2. Once Upon a Time 3. SoHo Landmarks4. Hudson River Park - though it may be a bit overexposed   So have you been to Nobu in NY and Morimoto in Philly? Was at Noby this past weekend celebrating few things. $480 for 5 of us. just about fell of my chair.

But now that I walk your footsteps, I'll get there sometime in the future...  But one place I am not going to follow you is going to be during the upcoming elections.  BTW, [for 5 people] you have gotten a good deal at Nobu. bellthecat
Som nice pics there Martin. But, watch out when pointing the camera at the sun - I've heard that light from it when focused by the camera lens can get intense enough to burn the ccd chip. I don't understand why it must do that, I mean, physically, just the opposit would happen, because more you focus, more you reduce the intensity of light per ccd pixel(wonder if pixel is the right word). vava
Domino - direct exposure to sunlight for a long period of time CAN indeed damage the CCD inside digital cameras. Here's someone that found out the hard way:Â How to burn a Nikon coolpix 990 sensor.
Sip
Domino, a pixel is the proper term even for charge coupled devices (CCD). We may actually see CMOS take over that domain too but for now, CCDs seem to be doing the best job. MJ mentioned he was using a UV filter ... not sure if that will help but it certainly can't hurt. The CCD is basically a photocel and I don't know if the UV is what burns it or just intense light. In any case, the cameras that I have seen have a shutter which would prevent damage I guess. Damage could certainly occur if you play around with exposure timing but my guess is the "auto" settings can prevent things in most cases. Fad, you are right that if you focus the light too much you are narrowing down the area of pixels that the "sun" will fall onto. But after all, you have a physical chip there and any intense light (especially sun) for too long could burn it up. You can at least expect "burn" marks on future images.  So I'd say you definitely have to be careful especially if you're setting your own shutter/exposure times. ---Edit: Vava I saw your post after typing this. Possibly, but Focusing, logically must do less dommage than not focussing at all.  Thanks Sip, about CMOS, I usually hear that they take only bad quality images... and are only practicle for little cameras like spy cameras etc... what would be its advantages over ccds? Sip
Cost. CMOS basically is digital. With CCDs, you need some analog to digital converter which adds significantly to it's cost and performance restrictions (speed, power requirements, etc). If you can remove all analog components, you're doing GOOD in terms of speed, area, power requirements, and COST!
