hyebruin
i was listening to his cd after a long hiatus! (guess it was stuck and forgotten in some corner of my room!!)~~~ i just love all that instrumental 'interplay' as i call it! i can't really say i have a favorite! i like 'em all!! especially 'artsakh' and that beautiful beautiful duduk version of 'makhmur axchig'--- gives me goosebumps every time i listen to it!! and the words to that are soooo beautiful! i wonder how many people this day and age could listen to that and really appreciate it!! "yernek n'ran ov vohr gaangnee koh d'raan, joor'd kh'mee, makhmur axchig..." aahhh, sooo beautifully written and played
Armen
Ara Gevorgyan always comes to my rescue when a foreigner asks to entertain him with some contemporary Armenian music Check out this:Ara Gevorgyan
ED
Yes karine, I really enjoy his works, also did you get to listen Flora Martirosian and Ara's "dle yaman"?? check out budha bar, you'll like it! gamavor
Ara Gevorgyan always comes to my rescue when a foreigner asks to entertain him with some contemporary Armenian music Check out this:Ara Gevorgyan Aren't we strange brand of people. We live in a foreign country and call locals or non-Armenians - foreigners?!? Thanks for the link! I'm not fan of Ara Gevorkian, I'm just tolerant I think he is a good businessman. He figured out that there would be hunger for modern Armenian music mixed with traditional sounds and presented through lots of electronic gadgets most of which play by themselves, just by hitting the right button. Nevertheless I love Lernapar and few other songs.
Harut
though i love his work (of course, almost none of those melodies are not written by him), sometimes i wish the guitar and the drums and the rest of the foreigners are cut out, so i can enjoy the Armenian in the music. Azat
I guess I am a notch under tolerating his music. He for sure is a smart businessman. To prove to us that he is a musician and not just a performer he should write one or 2 originals and allow people to judge him by that. Armen
Aren't we strange brand of people. We live in a foreign country and call locals or non-Armenians - foreigners?!? We are not strange, Gamavor. I live (I am based?) in Armenia and I feel like being from there everywhere I go. I ment "foreigners" with relation to Armenian things, people who never dealt with anything Armenian. Well, what can I say, that was a smart thing to do. And in this case Komitas is in the same league Edited October 13, 2003 by ArmenSarg
gamavor
Komitas businessman? Common. Businessman means entrepreneur, someone that has my deepest respect. Musician is a different thing. Ara Gevorgian combines the two pretty well, and given that virtually there is no Armenian Show Business, I guess people of art should take care of everything. Armen
I didn't meen Komitas is an enterpreneur. But I can say, he figured out that there would be good market for spiritual music combined with Armenian national sound, for example the Armenian Church. All I want to say is that Ara is a gifted musician. And if he does not have an incentive to become a composer, that would not make him a bad musician. nairi
If Ara G was a gifted musician he would know how to mix traditional with modern. He doesn't. His electronic performance is of the cheapest and lowest quality. It's embarrassing. I would only introduce him to non-Armenians to show them what crap we make. Please don't compare him to Komitas. Hamel Barev, It was not ment to compare Ara to Komitas. It was rather an attempt to compare the logic of consideration. Ok, you win. What kind of Armenian music do you serve your foreigners except for Komitas and all the classical composers. Peace,A.
nairi
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound harsh. Just sharing my opinion. Bari es ekel. Hope you have a nice stay.
Sasun
I think Ara Gevorkyan is not bad. His first 1-2 albums were pretty good, then he just kept repeating the same stuff which is now boring. It would be nice if he had something original at last. Wow Nairi jan, how come such a negative perspective on Ara. I mean I do not like his music either and never listen to it either, but if you want Armenian crappy music the list is so long that I am not even sure if Ara is on the list. nairi
Azat jan, please don't make me get nastier. There's good music and there's bad. Ara G, for me, belongs in the bad, along with your list (no pun intended!). I don't care what place he takes in the top 10,000 worst Armenian "artists" ever, he simply belongs somewhere in there, be it all the way at the bottom or all the way at the top. This however does not mean that I don't ever listen to him. Yes, once in a while, in an odd mood, I'll put on anything that belongs in my bad list and I'll actually enjoy it. If I'm overexcited (which rarely happens), I may even dance to it. But it still belongs in my bad list, and I only listen to it for its badness and not because I all of a sudden think it's good. Sip
But it still belongs in my bad list, and I only listen to it for its badness and not because I all of a sudden think it's good.Fascinating ... Does that apply to other things as well? For example does that mean that even the guys that hit on you at a bar but somehow end up on your bad list still have a chance and all they have to do is to wait until the right time? Do you realize what kind of hope this would give to a significant portion of the male species?

Armen
A short summary of this thread "Ara Gevorgyan is the nastiest Armenian girl foreign businessmen would choose on the 10.000 Armenian Top Crapy board's male portion." I kept Komitas out of this for moral reasons.

Proud EXPAT
No offence guys I know it's good that someone in Armenia is creating some music that is different than the rest of the crap, but even Gevorgian's music is dated synthesized wannabe Yanni.
