bellthecat
Whenever I post something, the window just freezes after I press "post new topic". But the message still gets posted. Then, after a while, Explorer shuts down. Anyone know if there is some incompatability with IE6 and this board, or is it that I'm using IE6 on Windows 98? bellthecat
Win98 - yep, I know that win98 Second Edition is supposed to be needed (though it does not mention it on the ISP's cd which I installed IE6 from). And as I predicted it crashed after my last posting! Trouble is, I had to uninstall IE5.5 coz it stopped displaying pictures (if you remember my post on this "elsewhere", when "elsewhere" was open to me ). DominO123
Win98 does not work well with IE6, I knew two people that had weird problems with it, such as when submitting a search on google, the computer would freeze etc... I myself not having Win98SE, installed Win98 on an old machine(that I trashed in the garbadge) that was as well doing weird problems. Have you a firewall installed? I think that now that you have installed IE this question is irrelevent, because it is doing other weird things... such troubles when I have them, it is always a sign for me that it is time to reinstall or restore(this would be not possible with you unless you did a Norton Gost of it) my system. If I were you, I would install at least Win98SE, Ah and, if you don't have the computer for XP, stay away from Millenium. bellthecat
Ah, but where to get windows98SE now? Maybe I'll try to re-install IE5.5, maybe the picture problem will have resolved itself after the IE6 install. No firewall at present, didn't think one necessary since I only have a dialup connection.
DominO123
The reason I asked about the firewall, is that sometimes when you have it installed it does weird things... There is hard chances that returning to IE5.5 will give you the same problems. As for where to find it(Win98SE)... try Kaaza...
Sip
If you are going to reinstall OS, you may want to think Win2K or XP ... no real benefit from going to 98 to 98SE at this time if you ask me. Of course that's if your machine can handle 2K and XP. If your only problem is with IE, you can try going back to 5.5 OR, try another browser like Opera. http://www.opera.com ... I know people that really like this browser and you can get it free.

Sip
But can you have yahoo bar and google bar with opera? Not sure since I don't use any of those but I'm pretty sure you can have one of these bars.

vava
I've used opera for windows, and it works relatively well. Some javascript items may cause system instability. You could also try the latest version of Mozilla (ex-netscape) - it's pretty clean - doesn't crash much. You can get it HERE. There's also Firebird a slimmed-down 'light' version - supposedly very fast. But I haven't used it. Don't forget to get a pop-up blocker too... bellthecat
Got opera 7 installed, out of curiosity - but don't really like it - the way everything opens in the same overall window is annoying. And lots of websites don't seem to run properly with it (doesn't seem to be compatible with i-frames?). Just tried to post this and got the message "Flood control is enabled on this board, please wait 30 seconds before replying or posting a new topic". What's up? DominO123
"Flood control is enabled on this board, please wait 30 seconds before replying or posting a new topic" Is an anti-spam option of this forum that prevent a user to post twice in a period of less than 30 second. You probably have posted something before posting this message.
