Canada has presented the law in question. Like is said previously it was not a "legalisation"

Anyone pocessing 15g or less will not be charged anymore with the "criminal" code, but rather will have a contravention.

For teens, it will be of 100 $, and for adults, 150 $.

Here's a brief breakdown of the penalties:

PROPOSED CANNABIS PENALTIES

- Possession of 15 grams or less of marijuana: a fine of $150 for an adult, $100 for a youth.

- Possession of one gram or less of cannabis resin: a fine of $300 for an adult and $200 for a youth.

- Possession of 15 grams or less of marijuana or one gram or less of cannabis resin where aggravating factors exist: a fine of $400 for an adult and $250 for a youth.

- Possession of between 15 grams and 30 grams of marijuana: A police officer would decide if the person should receive a ticket or issue a summons for a summary conviction. The ticket fine would be $300 for an adult and $200 for a youth. The summary conviction penalty would be up to six months imprisonment and/or up to a $1,000 fine.

See the CBC article for more information.

Oh, and I found this at Health Canada:

How do other countries respond to cannabis possession?

Over the last few decades, countries have adopted more diverse approaches to the problem of cannabis possession. In some countries, including Spain, Italy, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg, possession of small amounts of cannabis is not a crime. In the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark, it remains a criminal offence, but it is not prosecuted. The Swiss parliament is currently considering legalizing cannabis possession. In France, an official directive advises public prosecutors and judges to avoid criminal charges except as a last option when the only offence committed is the consumption of illegal drugs. Some countries, including the United States , see active prosecution as a key element of their policy response to possession of small amounts of cannabis. Although drug enforcement is a federal responsibility in the U.S., 12 states have laws decriminalizing possession of small amounts of cannabis.

Here's the LINK for anyone who wants to read more...

I went to Romania Last Year and everyone is down on drugs there. As they were telling / asking me about drugs, I was watching the cows munching on the Marihuana growing on the side of the road. I just thought . Isn't ignorance bliss? So I left those ignorant cows to their doile rumination as I agreed with my hosts that there is just no hope for America. By the way, a Lb of Marijuanna Bird Seed is 13 cent a Lb. It makes the birds sing more carefree.

Seriously folks, wake up amd smell the Currency. If Cannabis was to be Legalized, what are the tabbacco companies going to sell then? It's too easy to grow it.

The Dutch smoke-free campaigners won yesterday by an overwhelming majority. Yup, this means no more smoking in public places including restaurants, bars, clubs, and indeed, coffeeshops. No worries however for anyone who has planned a smoking trip to Holland this summer: you can still smoke "smoke-free" bongs, i.e. bongs that absorb the smoke when you blow it out (don't ask!).

Also let me warn you that ever since Jacques Chirac's nationalist paranoia of Dutch tolerance of weed being the cause of cannabis addiction in France, the maximum amount you can carry with you in Holland has decreased from 30 grams to 5.

Dear Edward, I'm not sure how easy it is to grow weed. From what I've heard it's quite intensive work and the quality is not always a guarantee. Personally I prefer buying it. It's not that expensive (if you're not a daily smoker :)) and if you know your coffeeshop you're sure to get excellent quality weed and a good deal.

It is a relatively easy to manage crop in terms of the growth of the plant, resilience etc.

It was a major issue in the US in the 19th century when it was legal to grow it as its fiber is stronger than cotton. Southern cotton plantation owners lobbied strongly against it, and that´s one of the manin reasons why we wear cotton shirts rather than hemp ones.

For those trivia oriented the US consitution was drafted on cannabis paper...As to the smokeable aspect of the plant I can´t give an opinion as to how easy it is to get a good "yield".

The US is a very interesting place you can go to jail for ten years if caught with cannabis and at the same time you can subscribe to High Times a magazine to the plant...

Agreed. After all, it even grows in the wild (also in Armenia :)). I was actually talking about "smokeable-good-quality" crop. Never tried growing it myself, but saw the hassle some of my friends and acquaintances went through trying to yield good crop.
