Oracle Listener

Recommended Posts

hi guys. help me!!!

i installed Oracle 8i long time ago. i installed 6i recently. now i want to connect them and keep getting this error message:

ORA-12224: TNS:no listener

i guess i have to start the listener. BUT HOW DO I DO THAT ON WIN98?!?!?!

on win2000 it's easy, but win98?

i'm so mad.

today we (including the professor) couldn't connect them on someone's laptop in college because of other error.

now i came home and can't do that here either.

i'm really mad.

i've been searching the net for hours already and all i get is stupid, premitive solutions - you have to start your listener, make sure you provide correct host name, etc etc.

it would be even more frustrating if i find out that one of those primitive solutions IS the answer to my problem. lol

Wow, Harut jan I would have no idea on how to do it on any computer especially running 98. I have not used Oracle at anytime, but I would guess that 99.9% of people install it on XP or 2000.

I am a SQL Server kind of guy. I have also used Sybase and Informix and some DB2 and MySQL.

If you want I can ask the guys tomorrow at work to see if they have ever installed it on 98.

Doh, let me explain.

But first Harut, it is no problem. The Google groups have the answers to all the mysteries in life.

Vava, Stormy, thank you. I really do not have a new job, but a new project I am working on as of last Monday. I am doing a 1 month project converting a VB 6 app to a .NET app we few others and in the process I am learning .NET. So far I am confused, but that is a normal phase for me.

guys, i need help with Oracle again. it's VERY easy.

how do i check to see if a textbox is empty?? strange, but this doesn't work.

if (:block.item = '') then ...

any ideas?

I'm not sure what language are you using but you can try NULL instead of ''

if (:block.item = NULL) then ...

or

if (:block.item IS NULL) then ...
