Guest Fadi
... Which Armenian poem is what you consider the best ? Well the one I like the most is against God... Anyone has a guess ? "(...)G voghchoghchem kez Asdvadz voghkerim(...)" The First time I heard that piece of art, I told to myself, was it possible that the Armenian language is so beautifull ? That poem, from what I know and have read, is what the Armenian language has produced as best... The intonations the rythm... it's perfect... and what is ironic is that the best poem(in my opinion) is against God.

Guest Fadi
Amot, Amot In fact it is drdounchk Bedros Tourian is the author of this masterpiece... I will scan this untouchable work. If anyone is able to translate this work in Franch or English he worth the Nobel Prize of Litherature. If he would have been and English, German or French... he would be considered one of th best poets in the world. That poem in everything that I have read in any language that I know far suprasses everything... In art there is no perfection but in my opnion that one is the nearer of this perfection. I will scan this untouchable work................ In art there is no perfection but in my opnion that one is the nearer of this perfection.Yes it is Petros DourianPetros Dourian, despite his estremely short life (1851-1872) has produced some of the most powerful and at other times the most tender pieces of poetry. The Trtounjq (Protestations) seems to be one of his most memorable specially among the young perhaps because he dares to challenge God and speaks of heavenly injustice for taking his life so early, it was written in 1871, the year before his death when one day he was convinced that he was dying. The next day he wrote Zghjoum (Penitence/Repentence). Trtounjq is too long. It (and more) can be found at the following site. Perhaps some "geek" ( I am not) can find the way to paste it here. http://www.geocities.com/armenia2003/armen...try/bedrost.htm Here is Zghjoum that explains why he had such an outburst the day before;Erek erb pagh qrtants mejSev mrap m@ k'arneyi,Ev thoshnats zuyg m@ varderAyterous vra k'ayreyin. Arpa
Here is a meager attempt of translation. No rhyme, no reason.Just so more poetically taslented ones would take courage too. Zghjoum/Repentence(The day after) Yesterday, when in a cold sweatI was in a deep dark nap,And a pair of withered pale rosesWere aflame on my pale cheeks,Of course, on my foreheadTwinkled a pallid light andI had a flight of death, I heard my mother's sobs...I opened my weary eyes, andI saw my mother's tears...Oh! genuine and tenderThose pearls so deceitful! My mother had a pain immenseI was that dark and black pain...Ah! There rose a storm in my head...I let that dark black flood loose...Oh! Forgive me my God,I saw tears of my mother's...
Harut
i don't know which one is the best, but Sevak's "Menq qich enq,..." has become the most popular Armenian poem. man, every time we talk about literature or poetry i remember my parent's library. back in Armenia they had a personal library of about 500-700 books. they are still in our home in Armenia, but they just pile a dust on them.i wish they were here.....
