multiple personality disorder?

Actually, it is now believed that there is no such real condition.  :D

i don't think so! where did you hear that? i know according to DSM IV it is called somethin slightly different now, (associative personality disorder?? something like that...) but it is a very real thing, believe me!! it is usually brought on by extreme physical or sexual abuse at a young age; and is a way for the personality to deal with all that pain and trauma by fragmenting itself and basically 'make believe' that he/she is an outsider and that all this is happening to someone else!! ---of course not everyone who's gone through trauma develops this illness; my guess is there is some genetic propenisty for it....some vulnerability in their CNS where their threshold for tolerance of such events is lower than the general population i would presume...yeah, we're all lucky and blessed in soooo many ways and we don't even realize it! :)

The reason why they change the name of associative, is because it is associated as a personality disorder.

Technically speaking, personality disorder as how it is discribed can't exist because of how brain process and treat memory. There has been recently more questioning about if such a disorder really exist or it is rather a "syndrom" of some sort of dissosiative psychosis.

Lets say that someone has this disorder, and have multiple personality, lets call them "a" "b" and "c" and that each have their own memories, what I mean, is that "a" won't remember what "b" will do, as well as what "c" will do etc... this will imply hat the brain must be directly physicaly abnormal to the point that each have their own memories that can not be accessed by the other, but since one has just one hypothalamus where sentiments etc... are build and sent to the rest of the brain, physically it is impossible for such a disorder to exist.

We know that the only different memory separations we do have is those of the consciencenous and subconsciencenous, the one with subconsciencenous is shared with dreams and the differenciation in the process of wake/sleep cycle.

I am not claiming that does that say having such problem are lying, what I am saying is that studies in this field proves that such a disorder like how it is discribed is not a really existing disorder, but rather a symptom of a possible psychotic state. Each real cases that were studies for long time, new personalities appeared, and the same personality never really returned, what I mean is that, suppose that "a" appear, with his caracters etc... this "a" will not be compleatly different with different memories then "b" or "c" but rather, an "a" will apear, then a "b" then a "c" then a "d" etc... c will be a mixture of "a" and "b" etc... with faulty memory records, like when you are in a dream state and you dream you are another person, this happens because of all those informations kept in your subcontious, this does not mean that this information is not accessible by your consciencenous, but rather, your consciencenous will not process the information the same way. Personality "a" "b" and "c" have access to the same information, but their interpretation of this same information is not the same.

Take the cases of a schizophrenic, that could find sense and have a different interpretation of some numbers or some events, when this schizophrenic is in some sort of partial remission, his interpretation won,t be the same as it was in a psychosis, that does not mean that they are two different persons, it only means that the same information has been interprated in a different way.

I have yet to see any real studied cases of someone suffering from multiple personality disorder, under true investigations, not those cases mimiking because they have commited a crime... in fact, the first such causes decades ago that were under investigations, were those of criminals trying to escape justice.

Domino, would you also now like to change your "multiple universe theory" to maybe the new "associative universe theory"?  :)

I told you already, the brain is one of my favoured subject... psychiatric and neurologic conditions are so fancinating to understand, the clue for the comprehention of the Universes is in the brain and its understanding.

So can you please shed some light on what Harut is talking about? Is it related to the Armenian Arsonist? That's the feeling I got from your post.

Sip, I don't live in LA anymore but my family does (not wife, kids) and I call them often and the impression is with real facts that Armenian cummunity is no longer looked upon with respect as once was the case. These factors are not fiction but real.

Here in the East -Boston,NY,Rhode Island Armenians are very respected and have an excelent reputation however there are also less or fewer Armenians from Armenia. You make your conclusions!

Of course from many of the Armenian I know on the East Coast - they don't much respect California/LA Armenians either - LOL - true...

A lot of this I suspect is because it is older-established Armenians (from Turkey/Iran etc) who are dissing (or embarrased by perhaps) the newer arrival immigrants form Armenian proper (more of whom are settling in LA & such....I evn saw this when i lived in LA in the 80's - in this case it seemed many Armenians from Lebanon and E Europe were arriving...etc)....I think its all very silly of course...put typical for folks who are often overlly judgemental to begin with...

I got angry at my son last night for taking his walkman to school, today all day I felt guilty and came across this.

There is just one way to bring up a child in the way he should go,

and that is to travel that way yourself.

Yes Vava, I agree, that’s why I had the guilty conscience all day. Unfortunately I (we) should devote more quality time, attention to our kids, and time which is so hard to come by now days.

A Walkman? Poor kid. What has he done to deserve this punishment? I can imagine a kid getting his ass kicked in school if he brought a walkman in. Edward, x-mass/new year is coming ... do the kid a favor and get him an MP3 player. B)

I hope you don't still make him wear bell-bottom pants and shirts with HUGE collars :o

Hmm, punishment?? What punishment, who said anything about punishment? Oh brother, I hope none of you ppl are calling child abuse hotline. :o

No seriously Seapan, he is a wonderful kid, I’m kind of jelios at him, I wish I had the father he has, as for x-mass we are going to Boston, for this past summer we went to Maui, next , its Italy and Spain, come now I can’t be that bad of a father?. can I? :D

Mp3 player? He had that 4 years ago, No Sep Jan he’s got a set of Yamaha drums now, and a good teacher, me, his own band, and writes his lyrics for his own music, what more could a child want? I guess more of my attention, in this hectic life, between us working our buds off, taking care of sick father and a failing business, its ok for a gUy like me to get frustrated when he receives a warning from principal at school,(he goes Armenian private) I'm proud oo my son, and in time I will post hs poetry here, he started writhing at the age 6 by the age 11 he was published in Armenia, as young Armenian in America.

Edit .. Ok, it's not funny anymore :P ;)

I'm sure you are a great Dad and I was just messing with you. The way you said walkman I thought he was still using those antique things from last century which I think were called "tape" or "cassette" or something :)
