Teenagers in Armenia

Harut

Recommended Posts

I was only a kid when i came to america so i dont really know what it would be like as a teenager there, but even as a kid i remember always having something to do.

now we live the suburbs and i feel so bad for my little bro, all he does is watch tv and play video games, theres no friends, parks, etc like there was in armenia, i remember every day going to the pool or the parks or to playing with my friends, going to plays, shows, ice cream parlors, etc.

you cant do that here....every place you have to pay, at restaurants and cafes they kick you out if you stay too long....its horrible, all they care about is money. there is no friendships for kids like there was in armenia...theres no neighborhoods, no one friggin knows each other or talks to each other, every day my parents wokl 24 hours a day cuz thats how it is here, my lil bro sits in front of the tv and my older bro is bored to death cuz hes got almost no friends. only friends are our armo community. also there is no culture here...people go to movies instead of reading, going to concerts, museums, no one takes music lessons, no one cares about art...when i came here in the second grade from armenia i could read better then anyone else in my english classes....how sad is that

and everything is so damn expensive, if you want to go to a concert or sports even forget it.

anyway my life is completely boring, everythgin is closed by 9, exept barnes and noble, that stays open til 11...

every night me and my friends cant find anything to do, we stay in and watch movies, fall asleep, just crap

if i have to go to a movie one more time cuz theres nothing else to do im going to die.

you have to pay for everything here...nothgin is free, and even when you pay, theres still nothing to do, life gets boring here quick.

if people wonder why kids do drugs, drink, whatever..this is the reason...

i really want to go back to armenia when im done with college too...i remember having a purpose to my life there...

it is still a fact that when you talk to the youth of Armenia and ask them what their plans are they will answer you "I want to go abroad".

i've heard a lot of (university) students say they'd love to study abroad but would never stay there...they couldn't live abroad...they're used to life in Armenia and like it  but i think once they leave they wouldn't wanna come back...happens sometimes...

Well put alpha.

I have traveled all over the world and I have found that life in USA is very exciting and fun.  That is if you make it fun and exciting.

me too.. I been around the world.. We have many things to do in the USA.. In fact in California alone we have much to do.. We have oceans, beaches, mountains, fishing, skiing, camping, big cities, small cities, farmlands, Vineyards, nightclubs, good shopping, professional sport games, Mexico in the south, melting pot of cultures, different styles, different music, different foods, good restaurants, much opportunities, good education opportunities.... you name.. All this just in California alone. Other places in the world are good and Armenia is a good place to visit.. but some people need to stop the anti-us propaganda.

P.S. If anyone has noticed. I have NEVER said one bad thing against other countries.. Don't know why people can't show the same respect for others.

EU and US should help to do something about the problems in Armenia.

I am all for that.. but realistically.. what have we done for the USA to have them jump to the lovely opportunity of helping us? Why are they obligated to help us? We need to help ourselves. 95% of Armenians are anti-USA anyways thanks to soviet brainwashing. Either we find more ways to help our fellow Armenians or we change our views toward the USA and the western World.

Just to remind you that many American-Armenians' tax dollars during the 20th century went on re-building Europe according to the Marshal Plan. In return those Armenian-Americans got nothing. That of course doesn't mean that anybody is obliged to help Armenia, but in US there is one thing called national interest. I'm not bright enough to fully understand this concept but it seems to me that somehow Armenia is VERY IMPORTANT from many perspectives, and partly (or chiefly) this is the bulk of our problems (by "Our" I mean Diaspora and RA).

We need to help ourselves.

I couldn't say it better!

This is NOT true AT ALL! Such sentiments are only popular among very tiny minority Armenians, predominantly from the Middle East and people who have grown up in other countries but still under heavy Arabic influence. Moreover, Soviet (so-called) Armenians who had the guts to change their country and establish democracy were very pro-American and pro-Western (sometimes even blindly). I find it interesting as a phenomenon that most Armenians, I'm in contact with, may have certain reservations about US policies in general, but almost all of them are very (naturally) pro-European, although not completely familiar with what exactly EU stands for.

Sometimes Armenians all over the world may look (and sound) anti-USA, but that is just an example of critical thinking in my view and has nothing to do with love-hate relationship. And, Yes we are blessed to be critical and judgmental, and alert for many things that the majority of the local 'zombies' have no clue about. (by zombies I mean white trash, some unfortunate minority groups and total loosers, whose goal in life is to get drunk with cheap beer and get laid). :)

Thats not even close to true. So far anyone who has been anti-US that I have met has been so stupid where I could have probably bought their house keys off them.

Maybe your looking too much at lower 10 percent of the Armenian population of Glendale because it is nothing like that. I know of people in Armenia who will be a better American without a thought than an American Citizen here lol( I can never understand this either)

anti american? hardly...my dad lived in armenia and always reamed of the us...the thing is when u get here life is extremely hard and armenians think the us is heaven and its not....my mom said after wed been here for a few years that you will always miss your homeland and thats true....but that doesnt mean that armenians are anti amreican. maybe were just smarter and smart people usually disagree with a lot of us policiy cuz it sux.

anyway...armenia gets the second most aid from us other than israel...unfortunately with the blockade, it usually takes more money to actually get stuff to armenia than it does to supply the stuff...then when it actually gets there our own country/politicians are so corrupt that most ofhte aid gets sold on the streets instead of being distributed to the people....

there are so many true armenian patriots yet none of them can get into office...politics is a bitch and everyone else suffers....

turkey and azerbeijan should be nuked...***ers and georgia too...theyre supposedly on our side cuz theyre christian...bs

Hmmmmmmm, somehow I don't see the future of a country sandwiched between two nuked countries very bright...

LOL - yeah but who is really thinking these things through - eh?

And BTW (to the poster claiming Armenia #2 in aid from US) - I think Egypt and Turkey are #s 2 & 3 behind Israel - and Armenia is way down there by a long shot (perhaps per capita you are refering too - don't know about that)...plus there is all sorts of (hidden) aid (direct transfers of equipment and such) that go to Israel & Turkey that is completely off the books (and were not talking chump change here either...)

3 years to this date this subject started, but I'm seeing it for the first time now.

Harut that is so amazing that you want (or actually wanted, I'm not sure where you are now) to come back to Armenia. That is rare don't you think?

I've been living here for a couple of years and I love it. Of course there are tonnes of stuff to complain about, but ahhhhhh who cares! I'd rather talk to the people and get my complaints across to them hoping they will understand, spread the word and hopefully see some changes. Most of these things are sort of small things that might not be a big deal for the locals but they drive some of us expats crazy. For example, litter, not respecting lineups, spitting and eating seeds throwing the shells on our beautiful new sidewalks (like as if Yerevan is a village, sadly when you think about it it really is one.)

The teens differ quite a bit in Armenia. Though most seem like they dress the same and carry the same lifestyles and musical preferences and so on, there are tonnes of teens that are completely "alternative", who listen to rap, or rock or even house, trance and so on.

Sadly you don't see these teens all the time, but they are actually there.

Eventually when individuality is accepted a little more, these other "alternative kids" will start appearing.

Harut GO FOR IT (if you haven't already).

Vika I agree with you on this but one thing I have to say! which country doesn't have corruption? USA? Canada? Hmm… can’t think of any

See… corruption came to Armenia from Arabia, Persia, Turkey etc. When a lot of Armenians came back to live in Yerevan from these countries.. well they brought what they saw…..

I don’t mean to disrespect any country or any Armenian.. but looking back at history .. it is history!

That's hardly an excuse to put up with it.
