Dan
So why is there so much homophobia and mocking of gays and lesbians in the Armenian community, and denial that there are Armenians out there who are gay? Because I assure you, there ARE Armenians who are gay... So of what use is the hatred? Gay or straight, does it make a difference on who we are? Sip
First of all, welcome aboard. Second of all, what good is any hate? Third of all, HERE is a thread from a few months ago on this subject that you may be interested in.
khodja
Sip, That previous thread reminds me what dans- kloochs Tigranness III and Vahe G. are.
hyebruin
Armenians are no more homophobic than other cultures...such as latin or asian...!!!??? maybe we're a little louder and enraged when we find out about someone we know!! ...but, nonertheless, i don't think we are more so than other groups! Dan
Hi... Thanks for the welcome... The thread you mentioned is not working, due to the maintenance thing that changed the links... Well, I can tell you from my experience as an Armenian that when I came out to my family, it was a disaster... Whoever I told, they told me I was going to hell, and that there are no Armenians who are gay, and that if there are, they should not be called Armenians! It's not only my family - it's the Armenian folks at university (who are supposed to be more open-minded, having lived in Canada and what not), it's my Armenian friends outside of university, my family, and so on and so forth... I was basically cast away from the Armenian community after I told them I was gay... My family told me (after my unsuccessful suicide attempt) that it would be better if I had killed myself than let everyone know about my shameful sin... I have Latino and Asian friends, but they haven't faced problems to this extent... True, their parents might not accept them, but they don't tell them they're better off dead than out as gay... And it's not only my family... My friends stopped talking to me the second I told them I was gay... Hmmmm... Dan
Sip
The thread you mentioned is not working, due to the maintenance thing that changed the links... I think I fixed it! THIS should work. As you probably saw, the forum went through a drastic upgrade last night.
vava
Hey Dan, Welcome to hyeforum - we're Armenians here - and there's very little homophobia I would think. So be who you are, and be happy about it. You're parents still do love you i'm sure - they're just embarassed, which is normal considering their (I assume) generation/traditional upbringing. They may need some adjustment time... I wish you luck & patience...
Dan
Hey Vava - thanks! - Well, I'm not too sure about my parents loving me - I highly doubt that embarassment can produce the reply they gave me... But well, everything's cool, even though they're threatening to kick me out now, and I'm totally dependent on them financially, living in a country where I'm not a citizen... Sip - yes, the link for the other thread worked. Whoaaaa! I see I missed some very interesting debating there... Dan
hyebruin
hey dan, i'm so sorry to hear that...what can i say? life can be a real **** sometimes!!! but taking your life is not worth it! sometimes things seem worse than they really are!! your family will in time (however long) come to grips with your sexuality or at least close to it!! but as far as your friends...well, you need to get a new set of friends!! who will love you for who you are, regardless of what that is! in the meantime i think you'll find a nice bunch of people on this forum who don't pass judgement... by the way....welcome to hyeforum!!! Dan
Hey Hyebruin, Thanks for the welcome and the advice! Yea, life is a b#$%@ sometimes... Sometimes all the time. I am hoping that my parents would one day come to grips with reality, and realize that their denial won't change the fact that I'm gay. As for friends - well, I do have friends, but it's not really "friendship." If you know what I mean - we just hang out. It's not like REAL friendship where we support each other... We talk, and then we go our own way... Up till now, I haven't met anyone who was a real friend. But I DO have a lot of friends online, people with whom I identify, and who listen to me and support me. This forum rocks. I love the design and colours, and I love the debates going on. Guest Fadi
Hey Dan, there is no place in this forum for gays, they should all be executed. Just jocking, Welcome to hyeforum, other then few extermists here(won't give names, you'll see who they are by yourself) no one here has any problem with gays. Nunush
Hi Dan and welcome.Human nature is such that, we like to criticize and judge those who are different, (gay, lesb, bi, ugly, fat, etc...) Be who you want to be, do what you want to do, because those who care don't mind, and those who mind, you shouldn't care. I have a very personal question, of course you don't need to answer or I don't know how proper its to ask, but I will. How and what age did you figured you are gay? As a kid did you have femininity in you? Sorry... you don't have to answer or give me details.
Sip
Human nature is such that, we like to criticize and judge those who are different, (gay, lesb, bi, ugly, fat, etc...)Yah, it sure seems that way. I know because I am an openly "geek" male ... I knew from very early on that I am not same as everyone else. My first feeligs of techno-sexuality started manifesting themselves long before I can even remember. In the beginning, they were more in the form of experimentation and curiosity but that slowly developed into full fledged nerdocity and programo-computism. I tried to hide it and pretend I am normal for a long time ... but deep down inside I was uncomfortable with who I was pretending to be. Then, slowly I learned to face my true self and came out of the closet so to say. I am not ashamed to admit who I am anymore and finally, I am at peace with myself and my surroundings. Sure people have and continue to put me down, antagonize me, treat me like a freak of nature, and behave as if this is a sort of disease or a personality flaw .. but as Nunush said above, I don't care. Disclaimer: Lack of sleep for a few days tends to lead to things like this post so conclusion is ... always try to get enough sleep.
nairi
To ease everyone's pain once and for all: even "normal" people are judged as different. Yes, even good-looking, heterosexual females like myself are utterly degraded at times (and yes, even shunned from certain members in the family). My solution: hang out with people you know will accept you for who you are. Welcome to Hyeforum, Dan. Man, I love posting on this new board, even when I have nothing to say! Why are women not attracted to women, but by men, when men are not soft, neither round, neither gentle, neither fragile, legs, t*ts, arse etc. you see a gay will be attracted to a man, with the same way that your girlfriend is attracted by you, and for the same reasons that a women find herself attracted to a man. There is nothing magical in that.

Accelerated
same reasons that a women find herself attracted to a man. There is nothing magical in that. Yes, I understand this, but how could a man NOT be attracted to a woman. I do know that most homo relationships have one guy being the 'man' and the other the 'woman', so more or less immitating a normal relationship. So why cant the 'man' get a real woman instead of a pretender? Like, how can you not be attaracted to this: http://www.models.am/models_dir/valentina/valentina1_1.jpg

I definitely think the male was God's first crack at making a human body. I think he got it right with the woman (well, in some cases anyway ). khodja
Some men are attracted to women AND to men who are androgynous-relatively hairless, sort of pretty, somewhat feminine. Why I don't know.
