Shameful Silence

Wh00t,

You are by far the biggest idiot I have come across in this forum. If you take a step back and read the crap you've posted, maybe you would get a clue. I'm not sure how old you are, but you really need to grow up.

I'm sorry people like you are part of my race.

Aha - that's the point.
I did not say I didn't care or that I did not express remorse, ever, for people I did not know - I just didn't cry, and I didn't mourn, because I didn't feel like it today - your choice and your right (and my grandfather's brother - give me a break). (And, with my grandfather, I couldn't feel sad. I had been used to the idea. And...?) Also your choice is what you feel and how you feel it. Moreover, the inability to shed a tear over massive deaths doesn't mean one is insensitive to them. However, attached fact is that I never stopped to think of saying to my aunt, "If you cry for mine, I'll cry for yours," or I never thought, "She never cries for me, why should I cry for her?"
There is a difference between expressing remorse (or not) and making a "deal" out of it.
Really, I think you have realized what a silly mistake you have made by arrogantly declaring that it is not up to you to cry or anything, simply because others don't know about our issues and therefore don't cry, and you are now focused on me instead of the earlier part of that my post where I condemned your ticaret...
I'm not even criticizing your lack of sadness over the deaths - it is not up to me or anyone else. Expecting something in return - now, THAT shows lack of empathy (actually your choice, too - but it is how you project this to other people around you that matters, and you've done miserably - the most you should have done should have been shutting up) AND arrogance!
Oh - forgot - yeah, I do feel sorry for all those items you have mentioned above (except for those who tear their arses over prison reforms [they won't be able to "work" like they used to]), though that's besides the point.

No Thorny, his idiocy goes beyond that. It's more than just a tit-fot-tat issue. He fails to realize that it wasn't just 5,000 Americans, it was 5,000 innocent humans that are part of Western society. If he'd take off his near-sighted glasses, he'd realize that Montreal could easily be next.

And then perhaps we wouldn't feel sorry for his idiot life like he didn't feel sorry for those 5,000? You know, tit-for-tat?

Hey, Hey, Aghmug,

You have gone too far. What if they were 5,000 innocent people belonging to the Eastern Society (I do not mean turks of course). Easterners by default are not innocent or the life in the East is so cheap that there is nothing to mourn about.

If Wh00t feels sorry for those who suffer in Iraq, Turkey, and elsewhere I am sure, he has compassion in his heart for the victims of the WTC too. His point was that the World should learn to be more susceptive toward the human suffering immaterial on what geographical latitude it has occurred.

No, that's not what I was implying. The Muslim extremists are against Westerners. Right now it's American targets, but in general they are against the freedoms Western Society gives its citizens. If it were Christian extremists horrifically targeting innocent Muslims with 747s I would feel the same way.

A human is a human. To say you're not crying over 5,000 dead Americans because no one in America is crying over 1,500,000 dead Armenians is insensitive and ignorant. And the thousands of people killed were from all around the world and all religions. Did you see the memorial service yesterday in NY? Do you know why there were so many Muslims in the audience? Because they felt guilty? No, because they lost family members also.

No, then he would realize it wasn't an attack on America, but an attack on the civilized world. You're not 100% safe in Turkey either.

Aghmug:

MosJan is right.

Your rude, childish, and slanderous attacks on my character are uncalled for and do not contribute anything to this discussion. Your statements clearly indicate which one of us needs "to grow up".

Gamavor has kindly put into other words what you couldn't be bothered to intrepret from my earlier post. Terrorist attacks should not only "count" if they are against the USA. They occur every day in the East - maybe not of this magnitude in one day, but they accumulate to large numbers. When we hear about these, we are not "depressed, scared and stressed about the whole thing", are we? As long as it isn't happening to us, you turn off the TV and have a good night's sleep.

Thorny Rose:

You say the "inability to shed a tear over massive deaths doesn't mean one is insensitive to them". If so, what are we arguing about? Of course I feel bad for what happened to the innocents in the WTCs, but what I meant by the "cry" remark is that I'm not going to scream "bloody murder" and that there is no justice in the world because of it.. simply because this is not a unique occurence in that terrorism is exhibited every day, everywhere.

Also, why must you push this "expecting something in return" theory? That's not what I'm asking.. I'm asking for mutual respect, and there is a difference.

If your best friend's mother died, and you comforted her, consoled her, attended her mother's funeral.. how would you feel if she went to a club and partyed the night of your mother's death? Would you not feel slightly offended?

I apologize for the morbid example.. please don't take it the wrong way (as you do with some of my other posts ).

As for your "you should have shut up" remark, I was beginning to wonder where your Turkish spirit had gone.

First of all, I still question the intention of your original post. I think Gamavor has helped you out of a tough spot. Secondly, if you had bothered to put some of the above in your original post, maybe I would have understood you better. It comes across as totally insensitive and you made NO mention of terrorist attacks in other parts of the world. All you mentioned was your assumption of Americans not caring about Armenians. Third, Movses also mis-interpreted your original post since he felt obligated to stress what Americans have done for Armenians.

However, assuming Gamavor did indeed clarify your position, what makes you think I do not care about the death and destruction that goes on around the world on a daily basis? You do not know my position on immigration to the US and where/when the United Nations should intervene in the world.

Why do you think so many people (including my great-grandparents) came to the US? To escape that kind of carnage and suffering. For centuries America has been seen as "the promised land". So yes, it is infact different when it happens in the US--millions have come here to escape it. Why did your family immigrate to Canada? For a safer and better life for you? What if all of a sudden your perceived safe haven was now no longer better than Israel/Palestine? How would you feel?

I agree here about how it is observed that you have come along, Twoot. That is the crux. Maybe, if you weren't so lazy and took the time to write a bit more, you wouldn't be giving people like me the chance to yap.
