Arpa
I am at times flabbergasted. How did we get from this; Quote originally posted by Arpa; This is not the first time the word "assimilation" has been used on this forum. Some people use it as if it is a stroke of genius, as if they have just created it. However it is obvious that some of us don't know the true meaning of the word.I looked it up, there really is not one single word in the Armenian to convert the true meaning of the word. One dictionary explains it as "nmanatsum", to identify, to emulate. The I looked up "alienation", some translate it as "otaratsum".There are two other words in the Armenian. One is "tsulum", to melt, to mix, i.e to assimilate and the other is "udzatsum" which coveys the idea of "alienation" more correctly. To this?Quote originally posted by Sen-VahanMJ, the site gives a wrong information about the title - Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church. it is simple not orthodox. The first reason why the orthodox and catholic churches are different is theological. The first reason why the arm church is not orthodox or catholic is also the same - theological differencies. (whether it was done for some political reasons is another problem). have you ever heard in Armenia the phrase haykakan ugapar ekegezi??I guess you should read about monophysits and their heresy in the 5th century. (I think you may know all these things)And how armenians became monophysits and what was the attitude of the Orthodox Church towardmonophysits. And just to remind you that there are only several so-called apostolic churches with monophysit theology.(two other in africa)My best,Vahan Can Armenians talk about anything but Jews, Turks, Genocide and Church, and necessarily in that order. When I wrote that piece about Tsulum/Udzatsum I left many unanswered questions and now that the discussion has taken a character of its own I can't even remember what I had in mind, where I intended the discussion to go.Some day we may learn to talk about the real issues without bringing the Jews, the Turks and the church. Until then perhaps I should keep my big mouth shut.BTW. Vahan, do you know what monophysite and diphysite mean? Does anyone know? Do you care? Do we care? Does anyone care? Is it reminiscent of the debate about "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin"?Is "orthodox" synonymous with "oxymoron"??!! Speaking of pinheads!!! Rubo
Arpa Can Armenians talk about anything but Jews, Turks, Genocide and Church, and necessarily in that order. Yes,There was a hot discussion on sex…cars, computer puzzles etc. If Armenians do talk about Jews, Turks, Genocide and Church because they are relevant!! Be a doer instead of complainer. Start your discussions and people will comment. If the discussion goes astray then put it back on rails. You can’t be passive but act as though you are active. Mosjanhetaqrqir e k@lini iyn or@ yerb mi ardyunavet ashxatanq katarvi iys forumi masnakitsner kormits... Mosjan your statement is little ingenious, I have been active on many projects and I do not expect this forum to produce active community members (if it does great!). Lets just say this forum is like the street. People talk and then go home and what they do after is not my realm of speculation. Do I wish the members participated in our affairs in more concrete terms? You bet! Take care
sen_Vahan
Arpa jan, i understand that we should trasfer our discussion of the church to theology section and i apologize. That you do not like such kind of discussions not necessarily means they are not important. debates btw orthodox and monophysit churches continued for more than 1500 years. Some people care about that. As for whether i know the difference btw mono and diphysit i guess is for another topic already. Assimilation - i do not understand your question here. i wrote what I am thinking about that and other people did - is that an answer to what you asked? Actually, i do not see a question in your first post but only assertions and thoughts. Again, sorry for disturbing your topic, vahan
