Am I Armenian?

I am part Armenian, do not speak the language (mom did not have the chance to learn it and I grew up farther away from an Armenian community), and do not attend many off-campus Armenian club events or hang out a lot with them outside of the club meetings, and do not look Armenian. I am proud and will die proud of my Armenian family and the great heritage of the Armenian people, eat Armenian food when I get the chance, am joining the Oriental Orthodox church now that I have been able to visit an Armenian church, will try to find a book or something to learn the language in the next year or so, attended my alma mater's Armenian club meetings whenever I had the chance, and am somewhat involved in an Armenian political organization when I get the chance. You are Armenian if you want to be one. All the other characteristics alone are neither a detriment or a guarantee for being one. Having said that of course knowledge of the language and histoty helps.

What Yervant said above is true, yet I would have put it such;

You are what you say and feel you are. It is no one else’s business.

I will never forget what Prof. Hovanissian said when I advanced the adage that more then 50% of today’s turks are in fact Armenian. He answered thus; “ We cannot speak for them. It is not what we say they are, but WHAT THEY SAY”.
