A pipe bomb exploded at 10:15pm Saturday evening at the Birth of St. Mary Armenian Church in the village of Bakrkoy, Turkey.

A bomb, similar to a pipe bomb was placed at the back door of the church. Although the noise from the explosion was massive, and shrapnel from the bomb was dispersed, there were no injuries and the damage to the church was not extensive. Neighbors, however, were terrified.

Yesterday morning, Marmara spoke to the Chairman of the advisory body overseeing the neighborhood of the church, Dr. Vartan Erkol who said that there was only slight damage and that the perpetrators have not been caught; there are no suspects.

Lately attacks on Armenian churches have become routine. Though damage from these attacks has been minimal, a message is nevertheless, being sent. It is unclear whether these attacks are organized by one sourse, or are isolated, unrelated attacks.
