According to the Turkish Star daily, Atom Egoyan's new film'Ararat', describing the Armenian Genocide, raised much noise. As the daily notes, it was impossible to prevent the shooting ofthe film, financed by the Miramax Film Company, by any legal means,and it is expected to be shown in May. According to Star, aftershowing the film in France, Canada and USA the Turkish authoritieswill institute legal proceedings, aiming to ban showing the film. It should be mentioned that Turkey will not be satisfied withlegal claims only, it has already called on all the world Turkishorganizations to take active measures to prevent the film shootingand ban its showing. According to Star, Turkey in its turn will start shooting its ownfilm, describing the "violences" of Armenian and Russian army in Vanand Kars in 1915-1919. Egoyan intends to present this film to Oscar Prize, and show thefirst night at Cannes film festival.
