In the start not in the end.

If you take a look at the archives prepared by the Turkish foreign ministry affair(published in the net) we see at the biggening that the Catholics and Protestant were not supposed to be deported, this is also a point that destroy the government clame of deportation for military reason.

This happened in the beggining to not alert the allies, the Catholic and Protestant missions in Ottoman, were promessed not to be touched in the beggining. Touching the Catholics and protestants would have been a very bad choice by the Ottoman, when they promessed to not touch them by demand of the allies, and also the Garantee's given to the Germans that the Catholics would be not touched since there was also German Catholic missions in Ottoman.

But like I said this happened in the beggining. After this they were deported, since my Grandfather was catholic like many in Cilicia, and they were also deported and killed, and we see also in the Turkish foreign ministry publication that the order has been also extended to the Catholics and Protestants. The Genocide in Cilicia was the finalt stad and many of the victimes were Catholics.

So to conclude the genocide was extended to the Armenians entirly, and even some Muslim Armenians have been deported, and many Armenians that converted were also sent with the rest(this is also present in the foriegn ministry publication, I can post them if you want).

Here an example of Ottoman archive about the Armenian converting being deported.

"- DEPORTATION OF ARMENIANS WHO CONVERTED TO ISLAM

[Ciphered telegram from the Ministry of the Interior to the various provinces and governors of sanjaks, regarding that as it is understood that deported Armenians are converting to Islam in order to stay in their lands, they should be deported to determined areas without any regard to their conversion.]

Here is the archive for the Catholic Armenians probably by the demand of the German government.

"THAT CATHOLIC ARMENIANS NOT BE DEPORTED

[Ciphered telegram from the Ministry of the Interior to various provinces and governors of sanjaks, regarding that the catholic Armenians who remain not be deported and that their numbers be communicated.]

Here later the order for the protestants, this probably because of the allies pressure.

"THAT PROTESTANT ARMENIANS NOT BE DEPORTED

[Ciphered telegram from the Ministry of the Interior to various provinces and governors of sanjaks, regarding that the Protestant Armenians who were not deported, not be deported and that their numbers of those who were deported and who remain be communicated.]

When later in the archive you have this.

RETURNING THE DEPORTED CATHOLICS TO THEIR AREAS

[Ciphered telegram from the Ministry of the Interior to the province of Aleppo, regarding that those individuals among the Catholics of Mar'as who were deported be returned and that the reasons for their deportation be communicated.]

And other of this kind, of deported Catholics and also other Armenians be returned, when from these deporties from Lepsius report 90 % already perished. So we see here the hypocrasy of the government asking them to return when from the deported there was praticly no left, and praticly no one that survived would return by fear.

The above part about the Armenians converted to Islam contradict the differenciation with the Holocaust that stat that at least Armenians had the chance to convert when from the own Turkish state relieced archive we see that the converted were also forced to be deported(were ? In concentration camps in the desert), so there was no any escape for the Armenians, be Catholics, Protestant and the rest, like the converted to Islam.

And very unlikly that Canada would have any impact on an alleged Law of preventing Catholics and protestant to be deported.
