WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT FUTURE GENERATIONS, TURKISH JOURNALIST SAYS

YEREVAN, JANUARY 15, ARMENPRESS: Ferai Tinc, a leading journalist of the Turkish Hurriyet daily, who visited Armenia and Artsax together with other Turkish journalists, said she wanted her country to have good relations with all its neighbors. Speaking to Armenpress, she said she could not agree with those politicians, be they Armenians, Turks or others, who try to impede establishment of peace and stability in the region.

Citing the example of Turkey's relations with Greece, Mrs. Tinc said contacts between Armenian and Turkish non-governmental organizations should increase to help reconciliation between the two nations. "The public on both sides is unaware of many things, it believes politicians, but we are trying to work to seek new windows for overcoming the burden of the past that has been dividing the two neighbor nations," she said.

Mrs. Tinc went on to claim that the campaign for international recognition of the Armenia genocide gives rise to sentiments of enmity among Turks towards Armenia. "What does Armenia want by pursuing the genocide recognition? Lands, compensations?" she asked and added that presenting such claims in the 21-st century was not a realistic position.

According to Mrs. Tinc, developed economic relations will help to more quickly resolve the existing problems. "By going back to history each time Armenia is lagging behind and losing new chances to boost its economy," she said. "My children make friends with their own age children of different nationalities and speak in the same language of modern technologies, money and economy," she said.

"We need to think about future generations, we need to open borders, which will also provide Armenia with new chances to reinforce its positions and get hold of new financial and economic levers in the region," she said.

She said her government's position to link normalization of relations with Armenia to Nagorno Artsax problem was not right.

How thoughtful of this lady for being so interested in the future well-being of the Armenian nation. The Turks are coming to the point where they must come up with another approach; neanderthaloid threats don't seem to be working effectively. Now they are experimenting with friendship tactics, ie. "we care about you, this issue is the only obstacle in the way of you growing as a nation, what do you say you give it up?"

Khelk mi dar!
