elpasohye
This is for all Armenians in Texas and others who want to join in. What I propose is not a small matter and may cause a hardship on some people, but will need the help of many people. What I propose as a slogan is '1,500,000 steps for 1,500,00 victims of the Armenian Genocide'. April 24, 2010 is on a Saturday and the weather should be good. Then have 95 people, each of them walking 8 miles, which should not take more than 3-4 hours, starting from El Paso to Houston, Texas. 95 people represents each year that has passed since the Genocide. The distance covered will be 750 miles. There are approximately 2000 steps to the mile, and that equals 1,500,000. Getting people in place from El Paso to San Antonio (600 miles) will be difficult as the towns are few and far between. Plus we would need the drivers to put the walkers in place and to pick them up. From El Paso walking east we would need about 37 people, and from San Antonio walking west about 38 people and also from San Antonio to Houston another 20 people. If we can get this done, it would generate a lot of interest in the 95th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. I know that there are a lot of questions on how difficult this could be, but if we all got together we would also have a lot of answers. Can we do it ? Only if you want to.
