I'm worried about the Azzy increase in military spending...

Their defense budget is growing exponentially, now it's 2 billion (4 times more than ours) in 5-10 years it may total 10 or 20 billion.

What steps are we taking to counter this disproportionate growth of their budget? Does our government know those figures (I'm sure they do) what are they

doing besides protesting whining and bitching to international organizations that couldn't care less?

Spending =/= experience + motivation, which is something Armenia and Azerbaijan doesn't.

BTW, can you cite the quote in your signature? Monte was actually somewhat amiable to Turks.

Sorry but I expect more than just 'motivation' from our government...

Are they taking any concrete steps to protect our people from any azzy attack?

As for the quote, I found it on the internet, if that's not true I'll remove Monte's name but I'll keep the quote =)

I was referring to the troops' motivation.

Your question is funny, of course they are doing everything possible, don't worry, money is important but not everything. Azerbaijan can not afford to launch an occupational war.

I'd love to be as confident as you but do you have any evidence supporting your claims? I mean they control 1% of world oil reserves do you know HOW MUCH that is... Their defense budget will soon exceed 10 billion :(

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

Like it was already mentioned, Money are not equal to experience and motivation. It only takes one Armenian to shoot down a fighter plane.

There is no oil in Artsakh, Azerbaijan would have to sacrifice its economy for such a war and dangering their oil installations. For Azerbaiijan Artsakh is a question of national pride, they have no real interest on that piece of land. Their interest is archeic childishtic baby mentality, ..., they want it just because it will hurt those who they consider as their eternel enemy.

For the Armenians who live in Artsakh, this is the homeland in which they live in, they would give everything to not have Azerbaijan take their homeland from them. Azerbaijan can not launch an occupational war and win it that easily, take the US in Afghanistan, check their war budget..., Azerbaijan with its 8 million population is far from having the men power and motivation to engage in such an occupational war.

Nothing really, that the Armenian side doesn't already have.

The only thing in their inventory that I would be afraid of is their SMERCH rocket batteries -- basically GRAD launchers on steroids, as well as deadly accuracy, something the GRAD launchers were never good at.

I'm worried about the Azzy increase in military spending...

you should be more worried about how wide ilham's pockets are in order to store all that military budget (i think the boobjob on his wife helped lighten the load)...because less than 10% of that money goes to the front line trenches. since heydar's time, the azeri army was primarily focused on suppressing internal revolt or dissent. infact, the military leadership is probably the most distrusted element for the azeri elite. this has begun to change recently as more and more mysterious deaths have dispatched several azeri top level military personnel, only to be replaced by hand picked aliyev loyalists. (seriously, if you guys follow apa.az, you will laugh at how frequently azeri officers seem to dissapear)

1-finally, artsax is the centre of focus for national hatred, which aliyev uses to distract his population from himself. thus i see a military solution to the conflict, in that light, to be somewhat improbable: karabakh, which in 1991 was virtually unknown by the azeri public is now the "centre of azeri civilisation, culture etc" (they have turned it into some sort of kosovo for the serbs) so if, by any chance artsax is conquered, it would be a terrible day for aliyev, because his nation-wide hostage crisis involving his entire population will soon be revealed and his presence will no longer be required.

and as everyone mentionned, the source of this military financing is the georgian pipeline, which will exist only as a memory the minute the war breaks. the war would be quite disastrous for armenia and artsax, (who may be resilient because of the blockade) but would mean a deathblow to that of azerbaijan, which has focused its entire national economy on the export of natural resources to the west

The only good Turd is the dead Turd. ~Gamavor

a simple reminder that this sort of mentality was partly behind the extermination of our people, i find it somewhat hypocritical that the descendants of survivors would wish that, even apon our worst enemies

this is from an article on the subject:

Most notably, Azerbaijan has initiated a steady and serious increase in its defense budget, largely driven by the influx of wealth from its energy sector, increasing its defense budget from $175 million in 2004 to almost $2.5 billion for 2009. But given the extent of corruption within the country, the increase in the annual defense budget has not been used to either invest in developing or training a more capable armed forces, or for procuring modern military weapons.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artsakh is ready for a boom touristic this year.
