Welcome gorgona, I believe the reason for this is that you Greeks don't lobby, don't organize rallies, don't push for recognition. There are very few Greeks in Armenia most of whom are politically inactive. And many people don't even know what Pontian genocide is. But I hope this situation will change with Greeks becoming more and more active in their pursuit of justice.

Why doesn't our government officially recognize this? I mean aside from Greece's being one of our closest allies in the world, we have a moral obligation to honor the deaths of those innocent people as well.

Officials in the region's Armenian-backed administration could not be reached for comment. Mainly populated by Armenians, Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan in the late 1980s, sparking a war that killed an estimated 30,000 people. Armenian forces also seized seven districts surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh. A ceasefire was agreed in 1994 but clashes are common between forces manning the frontline. "Three Armenian soldiers died in fighting which lasted for around one hour in the village of Javakhirli, Agdam district, when Armenian forces attempted to seize an Azeri checkpoint," the Azeri Defence Ministry said in a statement.
