Aratta-Kingdom
Why doesn't any one ever suggest this alternative. The re establishment of the Trans Caucasian Republic with the following adjustment; along etnic lines. Some will say that the Azeris will predominate. If you study the ethnic patchwork that makes up Azerbaijian you will see that if you break up the countriy into Persian, Armenian, Kurdish, Talish, Laz, Georgian etc. etc. the actual Azeri (Tatar) component will be much smaller. That way, neither the Georgians nor the Armenians nor the Azeris will predominate. Everyones "territorial integrity" will be maintained. The Armenians will be free to move around and settle wherever they wanted. Just immagine what such a republic could accomplish. It would not need any aouside power for protection. Personnaly, I am not ready to trade Russian chains for US or Turkish ones. I don't want a chained Armenia, but a powerfull, free Caucasus doing business with everyone. WOW demian, i see you are the father of provocation. with your logic, i see no reason why we souldn't be able send all the mongolian leftovers back to where they came from- and declare a peace in the caucases & in the Armenian Highland. since we don't live in a dream world, i must say NO to your blah balhing. OK it seems inplausable. Since we are all dreaming here; may I too dream a little? The only way my suggestion would work, would be if we win the next war, and dictate from a position of strength. Because, even if we win the next war, the world (ie. us, the west) would never let us keep those gains. My suggested solution would be acceptable to the west because it would guarantee the west continued supplies of oil and gas, and present a genaral consensus. The Georgians would fall in line to get a piece of the oil pie. Did you not agree with my assesment of the ethnologigal make up of Axerbaijan? Our only way to weaken Azerbaijan is to play the various ethnic groups against each other. The Tatars dominate the government and the country but they are not a majority. Isolate the Tatars and we won. Sure I would like them to replicate the exodus of the pro American Vietnamese at the fall of Saigon and hope that their boats all sink in a storm. But thats too much to hope for.

In spite of the terrible loss of life that a new war might cause I cannot help but think that there are a lot of Armenians, primarily the Army, wo are itching for a "response" to put an end to Aliyev's fiefdom. If a showdown is what Aliyev wants I think a showdown he should get. The absence of public humiliation of Azeri leadership by our leaders increases the frustration levels. Hopefully, and I pray for it, more reasonable judgement on the Azeri side would prevail and put a stop to the irrational Azeri madness towards Armenia and the NK issue, once and for all. But if war is what they hope for, what can we do but fight and defend, again, ourselves.

Their post-Soviet generation is already growing up with the propaganda indoctrinated by Azerbaijan's leaders in books and political and children's cartoons, everything from Khojaly to comparisons to Nazis is throw at their way so it's impossible to restrain a fanatical mob that has been taught to hate since the age of 5 or 6. Hello Edward, Do you feel frustrated today in USA, having made you fight against communists in Vietnam... ( btw supported by Chinese communists) , presently for economic cosiderations are supporting communism in China? We do live in a weird world... during Iraq (supported by USA) - Iran (supported by USA during Shah's time) war in the 80's, Armenians in both armies, were fighting each other... go figure! Good luck

Good luck There is much to the irony that you highlighted. I appreciate irony. The world is ironic. However, I don't feel frustrated, I feel vindicated. Anti communisn has prevailled just as anti fascism. China turning more and mor capitalistic is great. In a generation or two, Communism in China even if it survives will be unrecognizable. North Korea will simply implode. Decades ago, before the advent of computers and modern communication, in the days of radio jamming, I was listening to a young man on the radio profesizing that the advent of free information would spell the end of Communism in Russia. I simpathized, but it was too much to hope for. Gues what! He was right.

Imagine super powers in confrotation regarding the possession and control of vital resources in 2028, (water-food- energy) do you think the West as we know it today, can afford to loose 500 million souls and still function? My guess will be no, but the East after loosing 1 billion might still be viable...what do you think? This could be a good dooms day picture story... Big budget. Regards Ps, sorry deviating from topic. But food for thought, where would Armenia and Artsakh be if the above ever happened? I hope our mountains and deep mines will shelter some survivors to carry our genes...
