Ashot
EDGAR MANOUCHARIAN GAINS SELF-CONFIDENCE [03:45 pm] 31 March, 2008 For a long time Edgar Manoucharian, a rising Armenian football star playing for Ajax of Amsterdam, couldn’t score for the Armenian national team. Moreover, he has rarely been recruited to the national team due to constant injuries. Manoucharian kicked his only goal three years ago in an informal game with Macedonia. At last, he brought victory to his team last week in a friendly meeting with Kazakhstan scoring the only goal of the game. He told A1+ in an interview that this goal will boost his self –confidence and let him score more goals. He also thanked his teammates for their tremendous support. Presently Manoucharian plays for the youth team of Ajax, and this is likely to last until the end of the playing season. However, Edgar hopes to be promoted back to the main team. Ashot
THE BEST FIVE TRANSFERS [03:52 pm] 01 April, 2008 Some Armenian footballers have been transferred to foreign clubs on the eve of a new football season 1. Levon *****jian (GAIS, Sweden) The Armenian best footballer of 2007 has trained in some foreign clubs. In 2006 he spent a few months in Israel. This time the former footballer of “Pyunik” has concluded a long-term contract with Swedish GAIS. The famous halfback doesn’t even conceal that the new club will serve a “ski jump” to a more popular club. Anyway, GAIS is a prominent club and has recently made great progress in Sweden. Presently, *****jian is one of the key footballers of GAIS. 2. Samvel Melkonian (“Metalurg,” D. Ukraine) Prior to signing a contract with “Metalurg,” Melkonian had trained in German “Frayburg.” Though he couldn’t demonstrate his abilities to the full in “Frayburg,” he stood out in “Metalurg” and the coaches decided to make a contract with him. The recent formal matches proved that the Ukrainian club has made a right choice as Samvel already ranks among the team’s best footballers. 3. Tigran Gharabaghtsian (“Cherno More,” Bulgaria) Gharabaghtsian is one of the tallest and prospective footballers of Armenia. He stands a good chance to demonstrate his abilities in the Bulgarian team. 4. Ararat Arakelian ( “Metalurg,” D. Ukraine) Although a few German clubs were interested in Arakelian, the latter preferred Ukrainian “Metalurg.” 5. Robert Arzumanian (“Randers,” Denmark) Robert Arzumanian has been a key footballer of the Armenian team since 2005. In 2007 he stood out as the best striker of the team. Unfortunately, Arzumanian hasn’t had a chance to display his abilities in the new club as he hasn’t participated in any official match. Ashot
“I DON’T WANT TO BE ENGAGED IN POLITICS” [07:03 pm] 01 April, 2008 more images IBF World Champion Vakhtang Darchinyan is in Armenia preparing for the fight with Russian boxer Dmitri Kirilov due on June 7. “I have more than two months to prepare, so I decided to spend the first month practicing in Armenia. Here I will try to improve only my physical state. The sparring competitions will be held in Australia”, said Vakhtang Darchinyan at today’s press conference. Coach Vazgen Badalyan who trained Darchinyan when the latter was still an amateur boxer, has been operated on and cannot train the boxer. “I feel I have been losing my technique, so I decided to turn to my former coach.” Taking into considersation Badalyan’s poor health, Vic is presently trained by Karen Aghamalyan. “His style is like that of Badalyan’s. In case I get displeased, I’ll go back to Australia”, says Vic. Before the February 19 presidential election in Armenia, there had been rumours that Vakhtang Darchinyan seconded Serzh Sarkissian. During today’s press conference Vic declined to answer if the announcement had been authored by him. “My announcement was a different one. When I last came to Armenia Serzh Sarkissian invited me to Dilijan where I was hospitably met. But I don’t want to be engaged in politics. I’ll always support the one my country votes for.” Darchinyan’s aim is to become a champion under all 4 versions. “I’d also like to change my weight to a rank higher and become a champion in that category. In that case I’ll be able to become a champion of Australia.” At the end Darchinyan told an April 1 anecdote: “Why does a boxer drive so fast? –In order to forget where he is going.” A1Plus
