Takoush
It's in the scriptures that to serve God we must be forgiving towards mankind. It's also in the scriptures that God is the only one who truly exercises to the capacity at all times to forgive us (if only we ask of Him and or Lord Jesus to be forgiven from all our sins). Therefore, if we give it a thought we can ask ourselves, "who are we not to forgive others when they do wrong unto us, when God Himself will and does in the end forgive that individual of his/her wrongdoings to us". To summarise my very thoughts and feelings as to why I exercise and try not to keep grudges in here or elsewhere towards people or at least not for a very lengthy time, even when at the time I have felt very hurt from the harsh words; is to try to be true to God's wishes and commands to let it go as God Himself will. Then I ask myself; "who am I not to be forgiving when God Himself does?" I sure hope and pray that when others have had tiffs with me would exercise the same concepts with me as I would towards them following God's rules, wishes and commands. Anoushik
It's in the scriptures that to serve God we must be forgiving towards mankind. What if it wasn't in the scriptures or you never heard of any scriptures? Would you still be forgiving?
Takoush
What if it wasn't in the scriptures or you never heard of any scriptures? Would you still be forgiving? Very good question anoushik. Going back some time ago with the Armenian choir in here, I had a woman suddenly coming on to me strong with very harsh words and suddenly her sister appeared alongside her charging at me both of them. I quickly backed off and went away with very hurt feelings. Within a short while as I naturally don't keep grudges and we surely met again, her sister passed me by and I smiled at her and said hello. She started to talk about what happened and I said forget it, please let's try to forget about it. Her sister approached and kissed me and hugged me saying sweet things to me and about me. We both had tears in our eyes. But to this day, her sister, the one who originally fought me with harsh words; she has never let it go. I did; but she did not. It's sad because whenever I meet her every now and then, she keeps on with her unkind ways towards me and I tried often enough times to be nice to her; but it's very hard when she keeps on acting unkindly towards me. With others; yes I do forgive. I may not forget the whole thing entirely, but I do forgive. I truly like and enjoy people's company and naturally I smile and keep on liking people from all walks of life. At those times and earlier in my life, I didn't read nor did I know about this part in the scriptures. At the time, I didn't even read the scriptures entirely. Anoushik
Anahid, my question more has to do about whether forgiveness is a learned behavior or does it come from within the individual. What do you think?
Takoush
Anahid, my question more has to do about whether forgiveness is a learned behavior or does it come from within the individual. What do you think? Anoushik, I really think it's from within the individual. For instance, I don't remember my parents ever telling me to forgive the behaviour of this or that person's wrongdoing towards me; but as a young girl, in most and practically all respects I did as I personally detested not saying hello to everyone and to the world. In short, I hated to keep grudges as I didn't like to fight or have tiffs. That was in my very nature. I never read the Bible nor knew about this until lately. So yes, I believe that it is in the nature of people to forgive. But you wouldn't know it until you find it out for yourself whether it is in this or that particular person's nature or it is learned from his/her educators or the scriptures. Takoush
well dont you think that sometimes we forgive too much,, so thats why,, " mardik glxneris en nstum",,,? Yes, you are quite right and people have taken advantage of my forgiving and letting go personality and nature all the time and as a young girl and through my life, I have repeatedly felt hurt and have been walked all over; but as of very late, now that I know more about the scriptures and God's words and rules, I still feel hurt and have hurtful feelings; but I pray to God to take away my hurtful feelings sooner and it works. The hurtful feelings disappear as if with some miracle much sooner than it used to be and I still try to forgive as I used to forgive perhaps sooner than most people. Now I say to myself that people's persistent stubburn behaviours doesn't matter anymore since God would want us to forgive and let it go as He Himself does it so generously.
