In 1900 Nikolay Shustov “incognito” directed some cognac samples to the exhibition in Paris and they were awarded with the Grand-Prix. When the Jury got to know that the wine-grower was not a Frenchman and the cognacs had come from Armenia, it was so surprised that it granted Nikolay Shustov, the only non-French viticulturist, the privilege to label the bottles of his products with the word “cognac”, not “brandy” as was appropriate. In 1920 the facility was renamed and several wine and cognac plants formed the Ararat Trust. But soon cognac production at Yerevan Cognac, Wine and Vodka Integrated Works Ararat started to lack space and the Government of Armenia decided to construct a new modern cognac producing and bottling plant – Yerevan Cognac Plant, which was put into operation in 1953, and was sold to a French company Perno Ricard in 1998. In 2002 the new life was instilled into the integrated works: about 50 million dollars were invested into its development, renovation, construction, acquisition of a new bottling line, oak casks, etc. Using old manuscripts and archive materials experts of the former Ararat Trust put together and managed to reconstruct the lost secrets of the real Armenian cognac production. This drink is remarkable for its spicy aroma and full-flavored taste, granted by the abundant Armenian nature and cherished by the skilled experts of the art of cognac production. Currently the vaults of the facility store spirits distilled in 1902, the fact that very few cognac manufacturers can boast of. At present Yerevan Cognac, Wine and Vodka Integrated Works Ararat offers connoisseurs of Armenian cognac its new range of ordinary and vintage Noah cognacs called in honor of the Bible patriarch.
