sen_Vahan
EMINENT WRITER DIES Eminent Armenian writer Hrant Matevosian has passed away late on December 18 at the age of 67. The writer was suffering from lung cancer, and had undergone a surgicaloperation in the United States last summer, which gave hope to Armenia literature lovers that the poet will get better. Unfortunately the operation did not improve his health and the Armenian nation, both in homeland and in Diaspora, suffered this painful loss. The contemporary writer who was justly christened a ‘living classic’ by Armenian literature lovers, had authored such bright works as ‘August’, ‘Trees’, ‘Our pace’, Station’, ‘Gomesh’,‘Alis’ and many others. Matevosian was the chairman the Armenian Writers’ Union from 1995 to 2000, a post which a man of spiritual world can not well adopt to, yet having done a great job to preserve the organization’s identity. Although the writer has left the material world he will always remain in our spiritual one, for classics never die. © Copyright AZG
