Sireli Movses, hangist kats, Hayeren e.

Although there is very little to go by, the reason I say it is Armenian is tha fact at this point we are the only people to use it.

There are some ridiculous interpretations such as it being derived from "sqancheli" etc. But at the end Hrachya relies on the assumption that it is from the Sanskrit "svajana" which simply means "azgakan"/relative.

Go ahead, love your zoqanch, but make sure, as Red Skelton used to say, she does not stay more than 6 months at a time when she visits you two times a year.

Some of the provincail colloquials are; zonqanch, zequnch, zqchmar(aner), zqchbob (anerhayr) etc.

Movses, sorry, did not mean to confuse you. I was just kidding by putting the link to Srika.

By the way, how come the only time you ever get confused is when we talk about "Zoqanch"?

Arpa jan, tesar inch egav? Movses asked an innocent question about mother-in-laws and like typical Armenian men we all started to tell jokes.

Okay lav, 2 hat el yes patmem.

---

George went on a vacation to the Middle East with most of his family including his mother-in-law. During their vacation and while they were visiting Jerusalem.

George's mother-in-law died. With the death certificate in hand, George went to the American Consulate Office to make arrangements to send the body back to the States for proper burial.

The Consul, after hearing of the death of the mother-in-law told George that the sending of a body back to the States for burial is very, very expensive. It could cost as much as $5,000.00. The Consul continues, in most cases the person responsible for the remains normally decides to bury the body here. This would only cost $150.00.

George thinks for some time and answers, "I don't care how much it will cost to send the body back; that's what I want to do."

The Consul, after hearing this, says "You must have loved your mother-in-law very much considering the difference in price."

"No, it's not that," says George. "You see, I know of a case many years ago of a person that was buried here in Jerusalem. On the third day he arose from the dead!

I just can't take that chance....

---------

A newlywed farmer and his wife were visited by her mother, who immediately demanded an inspection of the place. The farmer had genuinely tried to be friendly to his new mother-in-law, hoping that it could be a friendly, non-antagonistic relationship. All to no avail though, as she kept nagging them at every opportunity, demanding changes, offering unwanted advice, and generally making life unbearable to the farmer and his new bride.

While they were walking through the barn, during the forced inspection, the farmer's mule suddenly reared up and kicked the mother-in-law in the head, killing her instantly. It was a shock to all no matter their feelings toward her demanding ways...

At the funeral service a few days later, the farmer stood near the casket and greeted folks as they walked by. The pastor noticed that whenever a woman would whisper something to the farmer, he would nod his head yes and say something. Whenever a man walked by and whispered to the farmer, however, he would shake his head no, and mumble a reply.

Very curious as to this bizarre behavior, the pastor later asked the farmer what that was all about. The farmer replied, "The women would say, 'What a terrible tragedy' and I would nod my head and say 'Yes, it was.' The men would then ask, 'Can I borrow that mule?' and I would shake my head and say, 'Can't, it's all booked up for a year.'
