By Jason Wells LOS ANGELES — Authorities on Tuesday released the name of a Glendale man found shot to death in the Hollywood Hills on Monday. Akop Akopyan, 24, was discovered in a small "drive-out" portion of the 6700 block of Mulholland Drive by passersby early Monday morning with several gunshot wounds to his upper torso and one to his head, Los Angeles Homicide Det. Wendi Berndtsaid. He was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6 a.m. by Los Angeles City Fire paramedics, she said. Police had no suspects in the incident, Berndt said. And no witnesses have come forward, according to a LAPD news release. As of Tuesday, there was also no motive for the killing, and police investigators were asking the public for any information on the death, especially those who may have driven by the area between 4:45 a.m. and 5:45 a.m., Berndt said. Akopyan's body was found just off Mulholland Drive near that famed road's eastern terminus just above Cahuenga Pass, along the Hollywood (101) Freeway between Hollywood and Universal City. Calls from drivers of three cars were made to police early Monday morning, some of which were delayed by poor cellular reception in the hills, she said. Detectives involved in the case would not say if the shooting occurred where Akopyan's body was found, or if it was dumped at the location. "There's a lot of information we can't put out," Berndt said. "We're following a lot of leads." Detectives would also not confirm if the death was gang-related. The Hollywood Division of the Los Angeles Police Department had received numerous leads as of Tuesday, but many had not panned out, Berndt said. "There's no breaks," she said. "This is going to take a lot of legwork." Akopyan had family in Glendale but was unmarried, did not have children and was unemployed, she said. "We encourage anyone to call," she said. I am not refering to this case in particular, but lately taking human life has become so commnplace that it does not shock us anymore. It seems like a majority of our guys are resorting to shooting/ killing each other as a means to solve a problem (i.e., girls. money, staring at someone for too long or in an ppropriate manner). I feel so bad for their families. As we speak, there is a young man my age fighting for his life in the I.C. U. of a local hospital. He was shot for the stupidest reason. He will never walk again, if by any chance he does actually make it. You cannot believe how stupid the "conflict" was. Why is it suddenly so easy to take another person's life? A lot of times homicides appear to happen for no reason, but then it all starts to make sense if the guy was in a gang or engaged in some illicit trade. In the Hollywood Hills case, the guy was in an area outside of home, at night on a Monday, and was unemployed. This could very well be drug- or gang-related. My parents know this Armenian family that has a son in his early or mid-20s who got shot less than a year ago. If you ask him, he says he was shot by guys he didn't know because he made a comment to a group of black guys to the effect that they shouldn't be driving around with a white girl. That's the story he and his friends will stick to, and it seems like nonsense if you believe it, but those of us who've heard rumors about this guy suspect that the shooting occurred because he was selling drugs in an area claimed by another gang or something similar. Em Posted March 17, 2007 Author Report Share Posted March 17, 2007 I do agree with you in that we cannot believe everything we hear/ read. Everyone is out to cover their own rear. The guy I know personally is not into drugs. Unfortunately, the guy who shot him is a total junkie. It must be "the company you keep". I never claimed he was an angel.
