Guest
Here I go again recycling topics, just as that bozo who comes on Cyberiran to criticize me. I think I know who he is, but I don't want to get into another controversy. I have always understood that Agassi was a ges Barskahay, just like me. An Assyrian guy on Cyberiran claims that his father is really Assyrian who lies and says he is Armenian. Whatever he is, he totally denies being anything but American in interviews, even telling a reporter to "Stop insulting me" when she probed about his Iranian background. WHatever he is, he is the worst kind of traitor. Whatever you guys may think of me, I have never denied who I am. Though my Anglo looks and name could allow me to easily "pass" for American, I have always told people I am half Armenian, born in IRan, even when it wasn't popular to say so(especially the Iran part). All I know is I hope he never wins a single match ever again in his life!
Guest
Half Breed, What's up with you and this obsession of bashing Armenians who supposedly deny their roots? (i.e. Andy incident). And now Agassi? Give it up man !!! Live and let live. Their supposed denial is not any worse than your ruthless attitude towards a specific group of Armenians. Guest
Dear Armenissa, I am damned if I do and damned if I don't! I am only "bashing" people who deny what they are, and that is what Agassi has done, if you want citations I can give it to you. As for Andy, I have always liked his music. If you don't like my "bashing" then no one is asking you to read them or comment on them. Go ahead and do you "live and let live!"
Guest
The phrase "live and let live" can be paraphrased as "don't care, or do not give a .... about anything". It sounds as extremal as "Don't live and don't let to live". Only spritually impotent people can do that. So Farsi, criticise as much as you can, always question any kind of authority (celebrity authority in this case).Arayzhm
Guest
Let the US have Agassi as their's. We are a generous nation. We will produce another tennis king. Maybe Sargis Sargssian will become one. And let's not let Agassi think that he is more than a drop in the sea of Armenian sports champions. Tigran Petrossian- chess World Champ.Yuri Vardanyan- weightlifting World Champ., Olimpic Champ. several times.Yengibaryan- boxing world champ., olimpic champ.Albert Azaryan - gymnastics, this one was so great that the gymnastics cross figure is named Azaryan's Cross. I just mentionted the greatest ones.I'm sure that in comming Sidnay Olimpics we'll have more. Guest
You know, I can't stand people who deny their heritage, whatever it is. Like stupid Linda Ronstadt, who kept it hush hush that she was Mexican, until she saw she could make mucho dinero$$$ from singing in Spanish. Now ella es muy Mexicana, with sombrero and corridos outfit, hipocrita! Then there was the idiot in my high school, with a very Persian last name, who would lie and tell people he was Italian. Of course me, Mr. Big Mouth had to tell everyone I was from Iran during the height of the Hostage crisis! Inch mets beran unem! This works both ways, I could maybe lie to Armenians, including you guys and pass myself off as a pure Armenian, but Im not going to do that either, anymore than I will lie and say I am only American. Okay, enough of me patting myself on the back!
Guest
"Mr Big Mouth" is me of course, just a clarification(as if you guys didn't already know). Another thing I hate are Armenians that slice off the "an" or even "ian" from their last name. Now, I have an Anglo last name, and I am not about to Armenianify it, as I am proud of my other side, but why do so many Armenians do this slicing off? Not to "bash" her, but I guess this is what Gwen Stefani of No Doubt did(or her parents), another Armenian-American. Of course, I am sure someone will come on and accuse me of attacking. I don't know, I am not saying she denies being Armenian, but neither does she broadcast it, as she should. That is why I admire the singer Shakira, who though born in Colombia, is very proud of her Lebanese heritage, unlike that brain-dead Salma Hayek, who told a reporter " I have nothing of Lebanese in me" despite her name and Lebanese father. Traidora eres Salma!
Guest
Friday, August 4, 2000 Sargsian gets a quick lessonBy GEORGE GROSS -- Corporate Sports Editor Pete Sampras, the classy, soft-spoken king of the tennis world, will befeatured on the cover of Wheaties boxes during the next few weeks. They'll call it Sampras Wheaties, a great fit with the "breakfast ofchampions" cereal brand. Pistol Pete is the first tennis player to star ona Wheaties box since Chris Evert in 1987. Before Evert, such giants oftennis as Ellsworth Vines, Donald Budge, Alice Marble, Jack Kramer and thelate Arthur Ashe also appeared. If Sampras, who has never won a tournament in Canada, enjoyed his ownbranded cereal for breakfast, he had Armenia's Olympic representative forSydney, Sargis Sargsian, for lunch yesterday. All the likable Armeniancould muster was three games in two sets, losing 6-1, 6-2 in the thirdround of the Tennis Masters Series-Canada. Sargsian knew what to expect even before he walked on centre court at theNational Tennis Centre -- that's why he already had booked his flight toOrlando for immediately after the match. Sampras, who turned up his game a notch whenever he needed to, refused toput down his opponent. Asked if he thought Sargsian, ranked No. 78, wasintimidated by Sampras, making it easier for him to dispose of his Armenianfoe, the Wimbledon king said: "There's not a lot of compassion in the men'sgame, or the women's game. I had a little hiccup at the start of the secondset, but then it fell all in place. However, Sargis is a good returner." Sargsian offered no excuses. In fact, the man who came to the UnitedStates five years ago from Armenia, appreciated the opportunity just toface Sampras. In Armenia, a poor country, there are few tennis courts; racquets aprivilege only few can afford. Sargsian's tennis future looked bleak. "I come from Armenia's capital, Yerevan," he said in fluent English. "I'mthe first player from Armenia on the ATP Tour. "It's not only the lack of racquets and courts that was holding me back,it was the general economic situation. But a very nice Armenian family inCalifornia helped me to stay in the USA to train. "My folks are very proud of my success and I talk to them often. But theywould like it if I talked to them more frequently. My father is an engineerand is employed, which helps the family. But the entire atmosphere inArmenia was negative when I left." He didn't have anybody to help him with preparation for the match againstSampras, since he has no coach. Actually, he never has had an idol, either. " I couldn't have any idols because I never got to see the top players,"he said with a mournful look. "The first time I saw professional playerswas in 1990 in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. The past three years, I was ableto play in that tournament." Was it discouraging to play a star of Sampras' calibre? "It seems to me that in order to have a chance against Pete, one wouldhave to play flawless tennis," he said. "First of all, you have to holdservice. You cannot allow to be broken in the first game of the match. "The way I served (yesterday), I'd lose 50 of 50 matches against him.Actually, I was not nervous. I was more uptight (against Canada's SimonLarose on Wednesday night). I just have to work harder." That's what Pat Rafter must have thought after losing to Sampras in theWimbledon final. Guest
Ironically many Greek guys say same thing about Sampras. They both (Agasi & Sampras) are just great American sportsmen. That's it.Just remember difference between Djorkaef and Boghosian.
Yera
You are right. One must not deny their origins like Agassi does. For instance I was born in Mexico, I am half Armenian, but I had never deny my origin I am proud of it.
JoelArmenian
Denying backgrounds is one thing. Being proud of it is another thing, for instance, I'm half Armenian, I never lie and say otherwise, I'm also half Australian, you could say I'm proud of being half Australian to a degree, but then to another degree I'm not. Depends how you think i suppose.

Alyona
I don't see how the word "traitor" can be used here. It's poor choice to deny what nationality you belong to, and you deserve to be ridiculed for it. There really is no one to betray. I think about 90% of the time when the word "traitor" is used, it doesn't belong there.
