No, but I was thinking about getting the Nokia N800. It costs only $400, it's a general "internet appliance" which means it's a small computer (running at around 300 Mhz) that can connect to the internet and you can install all sorts of software. Since it runs the Linux operating system, you also have access to a whole world of free and open source software. Compare this to the Iphone, which can't even install any new software... The downside to the N800 is that it can't connect to ordinary cellular networks. You can use it as a VoIP phone, though (I recommend the Gizmo project, which gives you a free Nevada phone number, or any number in the U.S. and other countries for $3 a month, 1 cent a minute out to U.S. and cheap rates to other places). It's got two memory slots which can hold upto 2 GB each. I think you should be able to attach an external hard drive to it as well. http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS9981902594.html

Sip
The iPhone craze is one of the more rediculous things I have seen in recent times. It all goes to show you how clever marketting can really make anything be the next "fad". I've been using the XV6700 for about a year now and like it a lot. It's basically an audiovox device rebadged with Verizon stickers running PocketPC 2005. http://www.mobilewhack.com/images/verizon_xv6700_pocket_pc.jpg http://www.gadgetell.com/images/062006/Verizon_BK_O_3.jpg It's got both bluetooth and WI-FI built in which is most excellent. The iPhone is nice but damn at that price, I really doubt they will sell too many after the initial coolness period wears off ... especially since verizon users would have to cancel their plans and switch over to AT&T. I guess it's kind of like the iPod craze ... where now a lot of people think "mp3 player" and iPod are the same thing Here's the thread I had about interfacing it with my car to get engine parameters. I wonder how easy it would be to try to do that with the iPhone given Apple likes to keep all their SDKs and development platforms secret and their own where Microsoft practically gives away their development tools for PocketPC.
