Tourism In Armenia

Error 404

Recommended Posts

According Karen Tshmarityan (Minister of Trade and Economic Development) 380 000 tourists visited Armenia this year. 20% more than previous year. If the current growth in number of visitors doesn't change it may reach half a million by 2009.

Not bad huh?

Considering our resources and geographical location I always thought that tourism should be one of the key factors of economical development of Armenia.

Yes, but how about working to change the tourist demographic from probably 70% spyurqahay and instead get more odars to visit?

I think some sites in Armenia are great for Christian tourism but I don't know if the monuments and such are kept in very good condition.

most monuments are in good condition, i inspected them myself, lol, trust me

see, now all the diasporans are coming, because, for 75 years, their nation was cut from existence.

now they want to see it.

when i was in armenia recently, i noticed lots of french, and swiss and even a couple frenchcanadians, who were visiting. point being that armenia will become with time, an interesting tourist destination for western europeans and so on...

thats what european university kids do, the go east

This is just what I, the Hye Forum village idiot, was pushing six years ago - cultural tourism.

I was laughed at here numerous times.

My mother once told a group of Armenian friends during the 1940's that she wanted to mass produce madzoon for the American market. Her so-called friends laughed at her, stating "Amerikatzinereh tzer madzooneh bede ouden? Ha Ha Ha." Within ten years Dannon was making millions as was Colombosian.

yes cultural tourism..

my uncle is doing that in the village where he lives, in yerheknadzor.

he invited a dancetroup wearing traditional armenian clothes to mingle with the inhabitants of the village. the villagers set up dinner tables for a nice traditional armenian kef. and brought out hand made crafts in order to sell to tourists.

my uncle then brought over a busload of tourists from europe and north america. the dancers came out of houses and started dancing with the newly arrived people. my uncle had planned everything, the people had a good taste of armenian culture, dancing and food, they were able to bring some of it home with them as they bought.

here are it's benefits: tourists: they got to see a magnificent culture that they have never encountered before, a culture that has not been too influenced by the outside world or the soviets like yerevan. (i mean lets face it boys, we have quite a beautiful culture, lets show it to the world) they got to bring home cheap yet beautiful mandmade artifacts, and had stories to tell their friends for them to go.

armenian villagers: they got to meet people from abroad, they got to sell their stuff and so on. if we think about it, most of the wealth is in yerevan right now, the villages outside have nothing. this is their way to make money, through trade.

armenia has so much to show, we must simply organise tourism better, destroy the old soviet-ness to it.
