Arpa
Arpa I did not notice other staff but I think the reason of buildings beeing couple of foots higher the ground level is for flood protection reasons probably. Yes, I have heard that before. One lame excuse after another. Excuses! Can we get with reality? Yerevan is one of, if not the driest cities of world. You may wish it was otherwise. How flood prone is Yerevan compared to LA, NY, Miami and Boston? If in fact, that is the case, has anyone heard of storm sewers? Yerevan is one of, if not the driest cities of world. You may wish it was otherwise. How flood prone is Yerevan compared to LA, NY, Miami and Boston? If in fact, that is the case, has anyone heard of storm sewers? center of Yerevan has been flooded many times H@raparak is at-list 20~25 miters lower then Abovyan Circle or as we erevantsis say "P@lani Glux" / witch in it's self lower then Victory park and Avan / Masiv + Norq Marash - so if it rains yo have water running from ????? you guested it Avan / Masiv + Norq Marash and it will go to ??? center of Yerevan not to Far from Abovyan h@raparak their is the city morg next to YSMU- in 1950 it has flooded so much that the corpses could be found all the way dawn to Charents & Nardos St. flood prevention channel / it was visible up to 1987 ~88 it starts in Avan / Masiv / most of it has been covered over / mad eon to tunnels to make more room for driving http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=40186578&x...amp;m=a&v=2 you can noticed next to Oghakadzev Circle next to Thekeyan Center http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=40178751&x...amp;m=a&v=2 Yervan also ha s a drainage problem - we did in our home in Marash / yes Marash and center of Yerevan are not the same but still you have problem of foundation taking water if it's not build higher then the street it will take water and soon your flooring is gone one more think in CCCP time anything that was build was not just a hotel or school - it had to have some underground shelter yes US A was not the only country that has done something for it's citizens . many building had 1 r 2 floor underground basements that was designed to be a temporary shelter / or storage / just like the basement of Armenia Hotel, in 1980s part of it was converted to a BAR Hanrapetutyun circle was not the same in 1930, it was 7 to 10 miters lower than it is now, houses & Barak's have been covered to make a place for Lenin's Circle / not everything was leveled / it took many years to get to this point - and still the city is changing. so if something was build in 1950 that had a basement - now that basement can be half way under the driveway or might not be visible at all Yerevan is changing / it's adapting just gave them time don;t rush

AVO
Due to construction work, the street was closed, so drivers had to improvise. I'm guessing one car did it, the rest just followed.
ED
I have visited Yerevan 5 times since 2002, and its always a construction going on roads it seems there would always be a road construction in Yerevan...and this is a city center I'm talking about. and I'm going again in march....i guess i miss the traffic jams and smoke filled hotel rooms, along with BBQ smell.gasoline smel Taxis and 30$ a for 25 grams of Nairi Konyak OK OK Nairi OK , but at list would someone in a position fix the mashtots street neon signs so it doesn't resemble "burj Hamud"?
