gmd
Read about it here. Does anyone know anything more about this? What would be his motivation for showing such loyalty to Turkey?
Armenak
I should have mentioned that the Journal of Turkish Weekly is a pretty crappy publication run by a Kemalist Armenian genocide denier named Sedat Laçiner. He claims to be an expert on Armenians and the Armenian diaspora, but by reading his editorials you can tell he is far from it.

My grandfather was from Polis. He kept in touch w/his cousin who still lived there. I know his cousins kids moved to Australlia. What I remember him telling me was that Armenians were still persecuted over there. In the sense that they had to have Turkish names, be careful of speaking Armenina outside the home, not allowed to renovate churches. So I keep thinking why are there still Armenians living there and why are any of them loyal to Turkey? Does anyone have any ideas on this? There is nothing wrong with the mentality of Armenians living in Turkey, it's a matter of survival under the conditions. Your grandfather told you the truth and take it as truth would your grandfather lie? No Armenian would be loyal to Turkey, it's just survival and it's not that easy just pack up and move. No, never doubted by papi. I know many still there have business interests and such but at some point you pack up and leave. As for the guy responsible for the article mentioned in this thread what I am trying to figure out is why any Armenian anywhere would be a Kemalist. From little I read on the Hemshentsi, even the youth of today is trying to reconect with their roots. So does survival in modern Turkey for Armenians mean being Turkish nationalists? Not trying to pass judgment just understand.

Not trying to pass judgment just understand. Lots of people did leave, but again it's not that easy just pack and leave. When the young Turks began their revolt against the Sultan, there were lots of Armenians side by side trying to topple the Red Sultan. But later we all know what they did, so why would anybody be a Kemalist? same reasons as to why anybody would be a young Turk, beleiving that they would be different than the previous one. Also some acted out of personal gains I guess. Tere are no Turkish nationalist Armenians as far as I know just politics and don't rock the boat. Aubépine
A Turkish nationalist Armenian is an oxymoron in itself since Armenians have no place in their worldview. They won’t even allow Armenians to have patriotic sentiments since an Armenian is treated as a second-class citizen at best, even today. Why anyone would act the way that person did? Who knows? Maybe deep down they wanted to be accepted by the society at large, an acceptance they would never get by the way. Yervant was right when he said it’s not easy to just pack up and leave. Personal interests on one side and sentimental reasons on the other. It’s not easy to leave the place of your birth, especially if you have to leave all your memories behind. My maternal grandparents were ethnic Turks from Listica in Southern Bosnia. During WWII their families allied themselves with the Croatians. Some even fought in Croatian battalions alongside the Germans. In the end they were lucky to get out alive. In their case they were loyal to the land but not the people. Arpa
A Turkish nationalist Armenian is an oxymoron in itself since Armenians have no place in their worldview. They won’t even allow Armenians to have patriotic sentiments since an Armenian is treated as a second-class citizen at best, even today. Not only it is an oxymoron, it is also plain MORONIC,( I have commented on that on many occasions,), it is a blasphemy. Even if my dictionary defines the latter word as “hayhoyanq” we know that hayhoyanq is just “noise/hulabalou”***. I would rather call such terms as “trkahay/takjahay/trkahyeren… etc as a blasphemy, i.e. srbapghdzum/desecration.. Yet, speaking of desecration, why is it that we recite Christian Armenian prayers at the dinner table laden with such Turkish delights as “dolma, sarma” and “basturma“. Once again. Please, please, I beg of you, I am not arguing the origin of those dishes or the original inventors, but their TURKISH NOMENCLATURE. Is there such a thing as Armenian Language or shall we forever be culturally at the mercy of the Turk ???!!! Do you want to hear a blasphemy? That goddam turk that has so enslaved us that we have forgotten who or what we are. Go ahead gorge yourself with dolam, sarma and basturma and then go to Genocide rallies and curse the Turk. Or better yet, organize a Genocide commemorative dinner and spread the table with dolma, sarma, and bastardma. Why do we use those disgusting Turkish words when the Turks don’t call them by their native Armenian names like “lits”, “patouk/terev” or “apukht” You want to speak about the Genocide? You’ll have to first learn to speak Armenian. None of that “kakma”, “kakma” and “kakstrma”. Many of our recent ancestors did not know or speak Armenian. What is our excuse? Stop! Take a deep breath! Are we condemned to continue their Ottomanized/Turkified legacy? Until and unless we stop, take a deep breath and consciously, deliberately rid our culture of that disgusting Turkish influence Yereva Province will never cease to be a suburb of Istanbul, a province of the Ottoman Empire. Let that clown Mutafturkoghlu, may he choke on dolma and sarma, pledge allegiance to the Turkish Flag. F**k him. Let him be buried in Istanbul.. Has he visited Yerevan? Or is he circumcised according to the religious practices of Istanbul? Maybe some day, when Istanbul becomes the capital of Armenia we may crown him king. But first he must remove that pagan/Islamic/ayatollah symbol…. the beard . All of the senior officers of Ejmiatsin are closely clean shaven, or at least close to it. ** Correct me if I’m wrong. That the English “hulabalou/noise/riot” is from the Turkish “khalabalukh”. Or is it the visa versa? Edited October 10, 2006 by Arpa
