if not pure then what?

Basically I would like to know how many of those 3 millions are of Armenian descent. I don't really care about the purity, I actually meant by it the Armenian descent part. If at least one of the parents are Armenian, I guess if they feel Armenian then it's OK by me.

Some of those 3 millions could be of various nationalities and not of Armenian descent. How many of those 3 millions are actually Armenian? That was my querry and point of interest. Do you happen to know?

Good question, what do you mean pure? Does it mean someone isn't pure Armenian if they were born somwhere else, lets say the US?

No no Amy; you didn't get my point. I was merely inquiring about the number of Armenians still living in the Republic. I wanted to know how many of the Armenians of Armenian nationality still do live in Armenia. I am not raising a question about whether their one or two of the parents are of Armenian descent. To me, if one of their parents is Armenian and if they feel that they are Armenian, then I consider them Armenian. So long as their heart beats Armenian. If they say that they are then they are.

On the other hand you now raised another question about diasporan Armenians. If I consider them to be of pure Armenians if they happen to be born abroad? Again, if an offspring of one or two Armenian parents do feel that they are of Armenian descent and feel Armenian; then to me they are and are considered as such.

I know that around the globe, including in Armenia we are around 7 1/2 - 8 millions of us. But I don't know how many Armenians are Armenian out of the 3 million in the R of A. They publicise sometimes more than what it actually is; that's why I raised this question.

Armenia is pretty monoethnic. Besides the known minorities - Yezidi Kurds, Malakans (Russian descent), Assyrians, Greeks which together comprise about 5-6% the most, the rest of the people are Armenian.

There are lots of people who have Russian, Ukrainian, etc grandparent or a parent, but they still consider themselves Armenian.

Irregardless of their ethnicity, all the people meaning minorities inclduding are Armenian citizens.

hope this helps.

Oh it helps a lot to me - Thanks Kakachik. I am happy to hear this. If even the mixed Armenians in RA consider themselves to be Armenian and feel it too; then I'm happy. To me now the picture looks much brighter.

Also I believe there are about 2+ million Armenians that are both in Russia and Georgia. And I believe they too feel close to RA and hopefully do not assimilate as much.

The almost absolute majority are of Armenian descent (I would go even as far as saying that most are repatriates & children of repatriates from 1945-46). There are some 60,000 Yezidis/Kurds, about 2000-3000 Jews, and an undefined (though not more than 10,000 by any means) number of Molokans. And if you want to count foreign students, I am not sure about the numbers but I'm guessing more than 4000, among them there are Armenians who are temporarily there (to study) and they are mostly from Syria, Lebanon, and Iran, also among these students, I believe the majority are Indians, and there are also Iranians and Arab students (mostly from Syria). Did I forget anyone? :D
