Look how Anahid uses the word. She has done this several times; Arpa, at least after 5 years of hearing all about these over and over and over again you have kept your sense of humor. Look at that above song again. “Inch imanayi- How would I know!” Armenian sources, Ajarian searches the word in as far back as Sanskrit and Pahlavi. He connects it with “imast-impastation, meaning-wisdom”, which points to its use as “knowledge-to know”, however, he fails to see that the word is from the Arabic “iman” which means “faith-trust”. If we were to dwell on that then “imanal” would neither be the WA “to hear” or the EA “to know”, but - “I believe, I trust”. Do you believe, trust what was written above? Here; http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=15650&st=0 We also see “Amen” said in response to a pervious comment, to mean “so be it”. Above we saw that “imanum em” , in spite of what Ajarian says, does not mean “I know/գիտեմ/I recognize”. It comes from the Semitic word “iman” to mean “faith/belief/հավատք”. Do we remember the Nicean Creed/Նիգեյական Հանգանակ where it says; “I believe in in one God/Հավատամ ի մի Աստուած”? Some time ago, I noticed that my pew neighbor,who had limited command of the Armenian language, let alone the Grabar was struggling with the phrase that we recite after Amen, I had to listen more closely to see that he was trying to say “amen yekeghets”, since, one of the very Armenian words he knew was “yekeghetsi” and “yeghitsi/to be/թող լինի/ թող ըլլա ” had no meaning. Not too long ago. Who knows? I don’t attend that many of them. During, or after the patarak, the deacon of the priest would pass the collection plate with; Amen amen asem dzez. She mnak paytsar mnak, aghkatats hamar e”, “May you all be prosperous, it is for the poor”. (one wonders who the “poor” are). We the ever so cynicals would twist it to “Amen amen dzez vastaketseq bereq mez/Ամէն ամէն ասեմ ձեզ, վաստակեցէք բերեք մեզ”.(Go earn and bring it to us). Is it Amen or Ameen? Ամեն or Ամէն. Note the Ե v Է. We have seen where the Էturns to Իas in գէտ/get-knowledge to գիտ/git-to lnow. If we reverse the process and see how the Semitic “ameen/amin” turns to amen. The other amen that means “all” is spelled with the Ե - ամեն.. Short of going deeply into the etymology and see how many other IE languages have it in one shape or another, the Armenian word is often erroneously spelled with Է. ԱՄԵՆ is a native word in the form of “semo” going back to PIE days. …. Skip skip . It is found in the modern Latin in the form of “omni” as in omniscient= ամենագէտ omnipotent= ամենակարող etc. Can we say Amen/Ամէն to that! Johannes Posted April 2, 2007 Report Share Posted April 2, 2007 (edited) Այլ խօսքով՝ մեր բառի արմատը «ԻՄ»նէ, մնացեալքը լծորդութիւն, հոլովում, ածանց եւայլն: Իմանալ կը նշանակէ՝ հասկանալ, գիտենալ: Իսկ եթէ հաւատալ իմաստով կը գործածուի այժմ, դա երեւի մահմեդական հարեւան ազգերի լեզուների ազդեցութեամբ է: Թերեւս ես սխալ եմ, կամ քո անգլերէն գիրը չեմ հասկացել...
