What we should do that this type of tragedy does not happen with us again? Dear K, Welcome, could you please, without getting too personal explain to us the meaning of your screen name? The reason of the question is that when I first saw you I thought; “Huh, another Turk” since at first sight it looked like “kilimji” to me. Now e know you are a concerned Armenian. As to your question, I must congratulate you for your courage bringing up such a sensitive and potentially explosive question. The issue has been discussed on many occasions and under various topics. Of course, as expected many of us have been totally scandalized for even asking the question as many others have totally denied our share in the disaster, once again, as usual totally passing the buck on others, all the way from the (just for the gamut of the alphabet) Afghanis to the Zulus, Janissaries to the Jews. As above, this is a highly sensitive and a potentially explosive subject, and I doubt if you will get many “sane” replies. I, for one have touched on the subject under many varied topics, be it here or other places. First off, April 24 is not the beginning or the end of the Genocide. The Genocide began around 1000 AD when we let those barbarians into our homes. Of course , at that time we were too busy to see the danger arguing as to which was the true Orthodox faith, ours or the Byzantians. We became the “faithful minority” ceded all military and legislative powers to the Turk. And as we know too well, we honor and respect our oppressors while at the same time we insult leaders of our own ethnicity. (Listen to some Armenians and see how they talk about Levon T P and Robert K). To make it short, let others comment. We have always been Europhilic, Euro-petal, as opposed to Asiaphobic and Asiafugal. After the fall of Ani it did not take us to o long to pick up and move westward (Kilikia), and ever since then we have gradually vacated our Homeland and moved to Istanbul and further west. Had we stayed in our ancestral lands, do you think the Turk could have genocided us in 1915? That date may be an arbitrary one, it commemorates the days when 400 of our intellectuals were rounded up in one night and destroyed. Yet, as we see the Genocide was in the making for over 1000 years, even if the Ottomans were so called tolerant during all those years , they realized that, with the “renaissance”, with our rediscovering our language, our sense of Homeland they had to expedite the extermination that was in progress, what with the loss of our language and culture, and apply brute and definitive force to once and for all silence us when they realized all that acculturaion and turkification was about to fail. Once again, you fill in the blanks. Why did we have two catholicates for over 1000 years. Why do we have two of them now? Are Armenians really patriotic? The saying goes that: “Russians want an Armenia without Armenians“. Do Armenians want an Armenia with Armenians? How many Armenians are left in the modern Yerevan Province? Is it not a dejavu as many of our most productive element and our intellectuals would leave their homes in Kharberd, Sebastia and Van and move to Istanbul, sing nostalgic songs hoping that some idiot back home will still be there when they decide to return (not). Our so called Christian faith has been our biggest downfall as it made it so easy for us to move west, Europe and assimilate and meld in the culture. We do it even now. We have always insulted our immediate neighbors who have been of another faith, always yearned to unite with our European “brothers in faith”. The rest is one tragic history after another tragic history. SHUT ME UP!!! Edited June 17, 2006 by Arpa

The rest is one tragic history after another tragic history. SHUT ME UP!!! Arpa: Welcome back from Armenia and Artsakh. I am sure you had a great and a wonderful time as being in our blessed homeland exhilarates our soul beyond explanation, I know. After 10 months reading your posts and topics, your writings and displaying from our greatest writers and poets, I know that your heart is all for Armenia as you possess great knowledge of our language and our culture as well. Just as a reminder to you, I most certainly feel the very same way about my Yerevan, Armenia and Artsakh as you do even though I am Christian by faith and you are agnostic. I know we have had some anhamoutyuns between us in the past due to our differences of faith and some of our idealisms about this or that gousagtsoutyuns. However, I can sympathize and almost try to feel and see the way you do; though I haven't changed my faith and neither my idealisms. But suppose, lets suppose there was no Antelias, which I know it is a soar point for you and also between us, at least that's how you feel, I know as you have made it very clear to me. In 1915 Arpa, there was no Antelias and we all had one Echmiadzin and one Church masters to begin with, but you were right, we made ourselves weaker and weaker by letting those bloody Mongolian turks in our homeland about 1000 to 1200 AD as our anscesters didn't foresee the dangers rather than being united and arming themselves against the enemy, any of our enemies that surrounded us, mostly all our terrible neighbours as they all, unmistakably all of them took advantage of us and our country. Looking back in our history, unfortunately our anscestors didn't foresee the danger that the Mongolian Turks were and have been to us, and they have let them in without fighting much. Much sadness and destruction to Armenia for then and as we know for the years to come. On my part Arpa, though I go to the Church belonging to Antelias; but I go to another Armenian Church belonging to another idealism for other matters as a few of my new relatives are leaders in an Etchmiadzin Church. That is of Ramgavar gousagtsutyun or party if you will. I see your argument now as to why you think or you believe that Christianity made us be closer to Europeans and Europe, which made us look into west and you believe having us assimilated with the western nations, when indeed practically all of Europe and the Americas don't give a darn to us Armenians or to any of our causes. You are right there, I mean as far as Europeans and the whole of Europe being inconsiderate and non Christian towards us, their Christian bretheren. But this is a very intense and deep and complicated issue. Because unfortunately it is not Christianity that is faulty in here but the fact of the matter as you and I know, it is most Christians who are not real Christians and they do not act in the real faith. They say they are, but they don't practice it and subsequently do not act it out. That's the real problem with most of the Europeans and the Americans. The other fact is if Antelias doesn't exist any more, do you think that Armenians will start going back to their homeland and the nation will reunite better? I do not know all the answers as I believe neither do you, perhaps you do. But if your aim is eliminating Antelias and starting to unite the Churches, then I suggest as a man of your knowledge, perhaps you could start acting and working towards it. Though in so doing, at least the young Armenian boys and girls will better unite under one roof to see each other and hopefully one day marry each other; all for the good mostly for the diasporan Armenians and our sacred cause! By the way, I too have thought that perhaps kilmj was a Turk or a Turkish lover at first. Though I also see that he is not at all, but he is trying to find answers and to try to eliminate any more calamities and killings to us and or to our future generations. I also welcome you kilmj. Though I have answered you at first scisinctly as to why unfortunately, very unfortunately more than a 1.5 million of Armenians left Armenia within the past decade. Lev7
Arpa, your words sound very strong, if you feel so strong about Armenia, why did you come back from there, why won't you go live there? And as far as Kocharyan and Levon-Ter Petrossian, lets not get started, when 50% of the population lives below poverty level and Kocharyan and all his goons ride in G500's, I am sorry, but they are not our leaders Edited June 16, 2006 by Lev7

The first one didn't act like his heart was for Armenia whatsoever, and the second one doesn't feel for the poor people at all, and finally when so many of them left Armenia. Why couldn't he feel for his people who lived poorly in the country without jobs and or food, until they had to leave the country for their livelihood; while he himself still lives like royalty. And he is displaying his royalty lifestyle too, meanwhile most of the intelligent Armenians had to leave the country? I don't know how these people call themselves leaders of Armenians. I lived 15 years of my life in Armenia and visit often, I just returned three days ago and it is really sad that virtually almost all intellectual community has vanished. Just visit downtown Yerevan, all you see is the rabiz people, with their big sunglasses, dark pants, cell phones who think they rule the world lol Depsite all this, I made a goal to return there after I am done with my studies, it is not going to be easy, but I just can not imagine myself living in the states for the rest of my life

Takoush
As a president for his country he should certainly very much feel for his people and certainly for the poor people as well; because the country, any country is made up of it's people. If you disregard the people then who do you have? Who do you rein upon? Stones? Certainly not. That's what the enemy did to us. That is the Turks. They attacked the people and destroyed the people to destroy us for once and for all. And unfortunately they have succeeded a great deal. So yes, the people and the poor people in your country is what a country is made up of and as a sympathetic and a good president; you should care for your people and for the welfare and the economy for your country; so that your valuable people won't have to leave your country. And yes, you can rein now and be merry as a ruler, any ruler; but when the next ruler or the president comes; hopefully for us will be much better one; then he will put shame on the previous one, if he is a better ruler. Remember, any governmental figure and for sure a ruler of a country, will always be remembered through history as a good one or as a bad one. He can live as he deem wish now; but the future generations will remember him for his good or for his bad stand and deeds. It's inevitable. Takoush
can you please elaborate, because i don't know what you are talking about... Like I said, Ter Petrossian was very leniant and quite befriending the turks. Most and most Armenians were very annoyed by that and outright disappointed in him. no, not really... What I was trying to say in my second answer to you, it is for what you have said; that I didn't care for Ter Petrossian because he banned 'Tashnagtsoutyun'? On that note, I said but I find also faults in the second president, yet he did not ban 'Tashnagtsoutyun'. I think I have explained above about my disapproval of Ter Petrossian. do what? i'm sorry, i don't follow you... Youre words were above my answer to you, when you stated that intelligent people left Armenia because they wanted to and not because they had to. Then you said that the intelligent people do leave the country to find a better life elsewhere, because they are. And you didn't take the time to look into what I said. Read it back again, as I was saying that though some intelligent people do leave the country for awhile but they do return back to their land when they tend to be more patriotic. Suppose if Armenia was more prosperous and they had better chances for a livelihood, I don't think those so called intelligent Armenians would have left Armenia in the first place, at least not so many of them. well, then i guess people's hearts are NOT so much into it, because i don't see many returning... Harut
You call that a lifestyle? yes, i do... is it a good or bad one is a topic for another discussion... Because of them Armenia is lagging behind. can you please show me where armenia is going, how it is better than it's current state, and how "they" are holding armenia back from getting there faster? is armenia currently in stagnent state? yes, i believe so... is it facing to the right direction, waiting to be released from "them" to go forward to "paytsarr apaga"? i don't quite believe so... Then you said that the intelligent people do leave the country to find a better life elsewhere, because they are. And you didn't take the time to look into what I said. Read it back again, as I was saying that though some intelligent people do leave the country for awhile but they do return back to their land when they tend to be more patriotic. i never questioned THAT... i asked "do what?" because your statement "Yes, some intelligent people do but not all." after my quote "because he can... first of all, most didn't have to, but they chose to... second, it may be a shame to see "intelligent" people leaving armenia, but what kind of "intelligent" person of any country whouldn't leave his/her country given the opportunity to leave a better life somewhere else? because they are..." made absolutely no sense... Suppose if Armenia was more prosperous and they had better chances for a livelihood, I don't think those so called intelligent Armenians would have left Armenia in the first place, at least not so many of them. suppose if armenia was the prosperous in the world and they had the best chances for a livelihood, i definately don't think those so called intelligent armenians would have left armenia in the first place... in fact, i do think that the so called intelligent americans would have left america for moving to armenia... Arpa
We are so virginally innocent and naïve. If we would only read ancient and RECENT history. Dashnaktsutyun was censored because as Armenia was struggling to shake off the burden of 70 years of oppression the Dashnaks were trying to bulldoze their way into Yerevan to resume what was left in 1920. When LPT and company were trying to redefine who we are Hrair Marukhian, may he rest in peace or piss, as the case may be, the chairman of Dashnak party was commuting between Athens and Moscow, trying to convince Gorbachev and company to not unravel the “union” since, as always we were ONCE AGIAN caught with our “vartiks“ down, unprepared. And when Raffi Havanissian, I don't know his philiopphy, it may be that he as an American born still believes that the triumvurate of Washingon, TelAviv and Ankara may be our salvation as opposed to Moscow, a diehard dashnak, son of a diehard Dashnak Richard went to Istanbul and shot his mouth about “Genocide” and the “lost lands” at a time when the average Yerevanite had no idea where the next loaf of bread was coming from. That is what LPT was addressing, not the legitimacy of Dashnak, Hnchak or Ramgavar. Eeach have their agendas, to not forget that the average Yerevanite’s/Gumretsi’s agenda at the time was how to feed his starving, fresh out of the Earthquake children, not politics or policy. Harut stop playing sharade! the because they are... was your answer to me; after you quoted me with the following... "I don't know how these people call themselves leaders of Armenians"... my quote that you quoted me. you said: "because they are..." It was yours not mine. If it didn't make sense.... well ask yourself that!!!!!
