Himar Vs Kgelaci

In “last years” of my childhood (yes... they are gone :msn-cry: ) I decided, that there are not smart/stupid people, there are only lazy and hard-working people.

As years have been passing by, I have been observing and my decision has become more firm.

What do u think? Why is it, that over the same subject some people (the same age) have khelaci and some himar reactions? Some are very fast and some are too slaw?

I think the “himar”, slaw ones don’t want to use their brain: there are too lazy, because too much thinking gives one a very bad headache ;) Or they don’t care, are very irresponsible. I am just shocked and embarrassed of human stupidity (hatkapes hasakakicneri mej) every time i come across it, and i don't know how to get used to it.

What are your ideas?

In regards to himar vs xhelatsi, we have had several threads before discussing what the definition of inteligence is. However, this is an interesting question now since even though "himar" translates to probably "idiot", xhelatsi kind of translates to "brainey" :D

In terms of "himar", I would classify them as the following:

  • 1. Intellectually lazy (as you put it): They are just not willing to spend the effort required to have disciplined and organized thoughts.
  • 2. Uninformed/inexperienced: Some are himar based on their lack of knowledge and the necessary experience required in knowing certain things.
  • 3. Illogical himar: Some people are himar simply because they think incorrectly. Their inferred knowledge or their conclusions are simply incorrect due to their faulty way of going about inferring knowledge or making those conclusions.
  • 4. Stubborn himar: Some are simply himar due to their inability to admit failure or being wrong.
There are probably other classifications and I certainly do not think everyone is equally intelligent or has equal potential to be intelligent. I think genetics do play some role but more importantly, up bringing and personal traits that are not necessarily genetic (learned behaviors) play very significant roles in how one develops as the time goes on.

But all this just reminded me of one of my most favorite poems by Saadi (persian poet). To use his words, he basically classifies the himar/xheloks as follows:

  • Those who know, and know that they know.
  • Those who know, but don't know that they know.
  • Those who don't know, and know they don't know.
  • Those who don't know, and don't know they don't know.
I have listed them in the order he thinks they will succeed. To directly translate, he thinks the 3rd cateogry, those who don't know, but know they don't know, will still somehow "get their limping donkey home" :D (sounds much better in Farsi).

But the last category, those who don't know, and don't know they don't know ... he says they will forever remain in their complete and utter ignorance :(

Thank u, Sip! VERY useful exploration! According to your formula of "forms of himar" it will be easier for me to categorise those himars around me and find different ways to "cure" them or just know how to behave myself with them. Unfortunately some of them are people i won't be able to ignore: orinak, amusnus jahel yexbayr@; HOGIS KEREL E! "stubbern himar" kategotiayi tak e @nknum :P

As for the poem, which is very nice and interesting, I think there is still hope for the 4th kind of people as long as there are ones who are willing to spend their preciouse time to teach them. But the hope is lost for those who "don't know, and don't know they don't know AND DON'T WANT TO KNOW what they don't know/what they are being tought!"
