MosJan Posted April 11, 2006 Report Share Posted April 11, 2006 ARMENIAN NAVY BAND WINNER OF BBC AWARD * On April 7, The Armenian Navy Band became the winner of the most respectable award in music – the BBC World Award. The Brixton Academy in London held the ceremony. Armenian musicians won the Audience Award as a result of online voting. The rivalries of The Armenian Navy Band for this award were Enzo Avitable e Bottari (Italy), Ilham Al Madfai (Iraq) and Sue Jorge (Brazil). Founder of the Band Arto Tunjboyajian received the award and gave a 5-minute performance. Yesterday night Arto left London for New Jersey to his wife and two children. In a phone conversation with daily Azg, Delia, his wife, said that Arto performed two songs. "How Can I Say Goodbye" he dedicated to his mother and drummer Arman Jalalian’s late mother driving the audience into stony silence. "The second song was brighter as though bringing light to a sad atmosphere. People got crazy. It was very amazing," Delia said. The Armenian manager of the Band, John Grigorian, told Azg that the Band’s "The Voice of Our Soul" CD, which occupied 14th place among 950 CDs released in 2004, greatly contributed to today’s success. He said that this victory will bring the Band fame and self-affirmation. "People who picked us give us strength and push our ship forward." it seems that The Armenian Navy Band will stage a concert dedicated to the April 24th with the participation of foreign musicians. Delia said that she will visit Armenia together with his husband and children.
