Iraq continues to be a place of madness.

It is best if all concerned give up on maintaining the Iraqi state, which was artificially created by the British. Yugoslavia only held together by the brute force of Tito. Iraq can also only be held together by a brute force like that of Saddam Hussein. The Turks will just have to deal with their nightmare of an Kurdish free-state.

if it was a land with no resoures, stakeholders(us, brits & others) would probably not give a damn, they can go live in 3rd century if they wish.

but it is a struggle for scarce resources, and iran/other neighbors have a vested interest in having control over iraq. If iraq is to give in to insurgency, as it appears its going to, then this will have some major effects on stability in region and world oil market.

nevertheless, todays events was very tragic. Its so sad to see sunnis disturbing such a religious pilgramage of the shiates. Even I as a trying to be christian feel sorry for the inhuman murder that happened today.

From the times of British control and under Saddam Hussein the Sunnis, a relatively small minority, were in control. They do not want to lose their primary role. They do not understand nor care about majority rule. The Shiite factions are fighting among themselves on religious and leadership grounds.

Since when is not religion the cause for so much bloodshed? Sadly, 1000 women and children were trampled to death. I do not see the Sunnis ever agreeing to anything other than being back in control.

I'm sure that someone will group these numbers with the number of Iraqis killed by Americans. :D

style_images/master/snapback.png

let's be clear,

exactly who's doing the killing?

another big difference is the "rules of engagement". One side has one, while the other bastardizes it.

They don't bastardize it. They just don't have any. And since they are not a ligitimate force, why should they?

what is a ligitimate force?

We should be talking about threats, ligitimicy or lack of doesn't kill people, threats when materialize kill ppl.

all it takes to pose a threat is to carry a weapon and do something with it. Flags, tanks, planes, etc is simply an aggregation of smaller units.
