AlenAlen
I truly believe that there is some good rabiz music. I think those completely opposed to rabiz are those people that cant think for themselves and are influenced by other higher-up figures in society (teachers, politicians, etc). I believe labeling someone "rabiz" is similar to labeling someone a "witch" in the salem witchcraft trials. Ex) people that didnt graduate music school, or never went to music school were labeled rabiz singers. NO matter what they sang. You dont like someone?? Oh, lets call him a rabiz singer! The truth is, not all rabiz is bad no matter what anyone says. And again, the topic is about actual singers (tatoul, hovo, etc dont count cuz theyre not singers). Many people call Tata, and even HAROUT rabiz. I just want to know why some people are completely opposed to rabiz??????????
Sip
Many people use the term "Rabiz" to label anything they don't like. In that context then, Rabiz things by definition are bad. Plus, there doesn't seem to be a very clear cut definition of what rabiz is ... there may be ... but the general population uses it very loosely. But overall, I completely agree with you. Proud EXPAT
Rabiz was never a bad label until these idiots who can't sing started mixing those turkish influenced annoying modulating vocal methods. TATA IS COMPLETELY RABIZ 100%. He admits this and anyone who understands what Rabiz is will admit this. But the average 'joe' who doesn't know what Rabiz truly is will get mad at this and say no he isn't Rabiz. HE is the true form of Rabiz, the clean form, the rest which are crap represent the opposite side of Rabiz. EXAMPLE: Eminem's music is rap, Vanilla Ice's music is rap. Yet someone turns around and says "NO EMINEM IS NOT RAP", because the pathetic form of rap, which in this case would be Vanilla Ice, ruined the entire category. SO IMAGINE if there were dozens and dozens of Vanilla Ices and just the one Eminem. This is what TATA goes through. And because he basically is the only turk-melody-free Rabiz artist out there, all the rest have ruined the entire fad. Rabiz cultured guys would not be so annoying and stupid acting, with their stupid vocabulary, if all we had were more Tatas and less of the other crap. Zartonk
I truly believe that there is some good rabiz music. I think those completely opposed to rabiz are those people that cant think for themselves and are influenced by other higher-up figures in society (teachers, politicians, etc). Many people call Tata, and even HAROUT rabiz. I just want to know why some people are completely opposed to rabiz?????????? Today, Rabiz is a transformed form that reffers to the industry of a widley followed pop-genre with strong non-Armenian influence, esp. Turkish. You know, what "apes" blast and like (No intented offense to anyone, really). In reality, majority of the output from this industry (I emphasize industry), musicaly SUCKS. Now what is true Rabiz and good Rabiz? Plus, there doesn't seem to be a very clear cut definition of what rabiz is www.usanogh.com/Tata and the Old Rabiz This article should make a lot of sense. Rabiz went from short for "workers of art" (Russian rabotniki isskustva),an "art for art" movement among the urban folk, to something Turkified and tasteless, that is, "makers of money".. (God bless though, they at least manage to keep singing in Armenian.) So this is why Tata is truley Rabiz and Harut falls along sometime too. By the way, we need more Tatas. I just want to know why some people are completely opposed to rabiz?????????? style_images/master/snapback.png AlenAlen, can you give an example of good rabiz music? And who are the people who can't think for themselves? Examples? You are right that in some cases people who haven't gone to music schools yet sing have been labeled rabiz. If we look at the pop singers in other countries a lot of them haven't gone to music schools either, but at least they are working their butts of taking vocal lessons (dance lessons too, if we mention the lack of dancing skills in our estrada singers). Since they are making so much money they should be at least working hard to make that money, at least sweat a bit. The musically uneducated Armenian audience keeps getting cheated in Los Angeles as these "singers" come to LA to give a few concerts, take the money and leave. LA has become a "xopan" where people come from Armenia to earn very easy money. Haven't you asked why such a tiny country has so many unprofessional singers, with equally unprofessional music videos? I don't even need to give an example of Tata and Harout to talk about rabiz music, rabiz lyrics and rabiz singers. Let's take any example - I don't remember their names but the brother-sister duo who came to LA, fooled people and left with their equally fooling song "du im lav qurik, du im lav eghbayr". What kind of a song is that?

Rabiz of the street lakot (the sub-culture and noise) and Rabiz of the Armenian folk lyricist (the actual music) AREN'T THE SAME THING! style_images/master/snapback.png Rabiz of the so-called street lakot dominated the Rabiz of the so-called Armenian folk music scene, therefore the lakots claim the titled of Rabiz now. Never was that way before. Did anybody understand the purpose of my posts? Dozens of Vanilla Ices and MC Hammers can ruin a whole music category and style for Eminem and other decent rappers. Then poor ol Eminem has to say he is not rap because of the other garbage? No he says he's still rap while the rest of them are still producing _hit, just like Tata does. This example doesn't really serve as a good example since most rap is not like Vanilla Ice crap. (By the way I'm not an Eminem fan, but I understand he's not as pathetic as Vanilla Ice.) AlenAlen
AlenAlen, can you give an example of good rabiz music? And who are the people who can't think for themselves? Examples? You are right that in some cases people who haven't gone to music schools yet sing have been labeled rabiz... style_images/master/snapback.png A good example of good rabiz music is Harout. "Esor Arazn Es Gnatsel" - a song by Sheram, with "rabiz" arrangements. Or "yerkrasharj", again by harout. Another example is "makhmur akhchik" - tata. "jur em tsakhum, sare jur..." - harout. The list goes on... Example of people who cant think for themselves: I don't want to give out names, but he has a tv show on channel 26 in glendale. He is my music history teacher. He is educated, and seems to know a lot, but is biased by what other people say and by what books say. Since many people do not accept rabiz, he also doesnt accept it. What would people think if this "educated" man listened to "rabiz" music???? His reputation would be ruined. Being on tv, everyone would ridicule him and think less of him. Like i said before, people started off not accepting rabiz, and it's like an infinite loop. nobody dares to stop and reevaluate it. People at first did not accept the Arevatsag band because Hratch (singer) never went to music school. They ridiculed the band and refused to listen to them. This was more than 10 years ago. Later, the band won first place in Armenia's first ever traditional rock/jazz festival. HOw is that possible?

Ultimately it has to do with taste, personality, character, and musicality of someone. I am done with this topic.

The majority of the diaspora hasn't even heard Armenian pop music.
