Azat
There are some greedy bastards in Armenia who are destroying the country. The parks are being turned into more restaurants and coffeehouses. The older architecture is being summarily destroyed. The nor-harousts, who are well connected-many being former KGB-are not insuring that the masses get enough to eat. Phd's are begging for a living and eventually leaving the country. These are patriots? style_images/master/snapback.png So what you are saying that that these cafes and restaurants are not needed because the masses are starving and PhDs are begging for money and such. If that is true I am sure these nor-harusts will realize that they are loosing all their money since no one is going to their restaurants and the parks will eventually return to parks

We had just lived through the most horrible winter in our lives - my mom still calls it the "black winter" (sev dzmer). Not only all of Armenia was going through the worst crisis since becoming independent, but we had to spend it in Gumri, living in a five story apartment that was classified by foreigners to be dangerous. There was no water, no heat, no electricity, and no money. Yet everyone kept working. The schools were open, the music schools worked (with tests and recitals) and universities held classes. My mom and my aunt were working. But they weren't getting paid. Every pay day they were told that there was no money. They were getting paid maybe ones in three months. I had to wear my dad's heavy clothing to not freeze to death and do homework under the faint light of the oil lamp. Now, in the past couple of years things have really improved in Armenia, especially in Yerevan (therefore my aunt moved to Yerevan). Things are still hard but at least she gets a steady pay check. That's very important, a steady pay check. We believe that she needs the money that we send so that she and her son can live OK, otherwise she'll barely get by. (Of course, she'll never ask.) But I honestly believe that they won't starve, and my papik won't starve. It's ridiculous to think that. The crisis are over and Armenia is getting better, although very little at a time. It's no paradise, but there are improvements.

Now that people have the means to get a job and have a steady pay they won't get a job. They have to realize that everyone's going through a tough time and they shouldn't be picky about their jobs. In the U.S. everyone does any kind of job to get by. It took my mom years to work in her profession again, to teach piano. Yet in Armenia they are too proud to work in a job that is outside their profession. We know someone, a doctor, who hasn't worked for years only because she estimates that instead of her troubles (taking a bus in Yerevan to her workplace that is far from where she lives) she could get free money from the government for child support. Of course, that's very little, and so she accepts money from her distant relatives in the U.S. every month... I think that's unacceptable. Movses, they also don't understand in Armenia that life in the U.S. is very different. They constantly point out that we live a life of luxury, that we drive cars. But they don't understand that a car is not a luxury here, it's a necessity. And there is gas money, and insurance, and oil, and maintanance, etc. And for these we have to work very hard to pay the bills. I wish that everyone in Armenia starts to work hard and doesn't point fingers at their neighbors, comparing their earnings with their neighbors. Only this way Armenia will truly improve. Nakharar
kumkat, no direct like to forums please. About the differences between the two, the avrage ages of Hyeforum users is higher than the other place. Hyeforum as well, is the real thing, the other important Armenian forums are just immitations of hyeforum, which was the first real important Armenian forum. What "kleenex" is to tissue paper, Hyeforum is to Armenian forums. style_images/master/snapback.png Armenianclub is no match to Hyeforum. Not only is the atmosphere much more abrasive, but it is totally devoid of any warmth or familiarity that you can see here. They see themselves as some sort of antithesis to Hyeforum. They constantly mock and defame Hyeforum and is full of bitter, dejected members like Steve and Thoth. Some of their members go even so far that they don't refer to Hyeforum at all but replace it with asterisks.
