If I turn on the thermostat about 50% of the time the heater will kick in. If it does not I do to the basement and pock around the wires and it will suddenly fire and start to work... The furnace is a York forced air natural gas furnace. It is fairly old(I think). So I have two questions. 1. Should I replace it or get it fixed? 2. anyone know of a reliable heater guy they can recommend in the LA area who is not going to rape me? Depending could be just the electrical ignitor, the control transformer, a simple short in the wiring - it may be worth calling a technician for a 'free quote' just to get some ideas as to the diagnosis. I knew there was something I had to d but I was not sure how to hit it and for 2 days I have been hitting it with my head and now I have a headache. Vava jan, I have no clue how old the furnace is. My guess is that it is between 10-30 years old. it is a York Natural Gas heater. there is some short as this weekend I was in the basement touching the wires with the thermostat in on position and I could make it go on or off but I was unable to find out where the short is. it looks like it is between the control transformer and the ignition box thingy. I am thinking of ordering both parts off ebay and maybe even replacing them myself.(God I hope there is no news story in the Glendale Press about a guy getting his ass burned while trying to replace furnace parts. ) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Azat Posted May 10, 2005 Author Report Share Posted May 10, 2005 :blush: Vava, when I mentioned that I leave the window open all year long I was not kidding, but other members of the family are the total opposite. The second the temperature goes below 60 the heater is on blasting. I have even closed the heater ducts in my room it is so uncomfortable.
